Free Phone Fridays (Best Buy Canada) – Blackberry Torch 9900 and Blackberry Bold 9810

BlackBerry Media Launch Event in London

I will fully admit that even though I’m a proud iPhone owner, I can totally understand my friends’ addiction to Blackberry smartphones. Admittedly, RIM did a really good job with the keyboard and how easy it is to communicate with other folks through Blackberry Messaging System. It’s gotten to the point where it’s become common place to call them “Crackberry”. And thanks to Best Buy Canada, I have 2 sets (one each) to give away to 2 lucky readers of mine, a Blackberry Torch 9900 and a Blackberry Bold 9810 as part of their promotional for Free Phone Fridays this fall. As you may remember, earlier this year I also gave away a few Samsung phones, and phone cards with Best Buy Canada.

Every Friday in October, Best Buy Mobile is offering a different smartphone for FREE with 3-year new activation! At Best Buy Mobile we are committed to offering you the best service available. With every new smartphone activation we offer our full Walk Out working service ensuring that you leave our store with a fully functioning device including: Free email setup on smartphones, data transfer from your old phone to your new phone and free Bluetooth pairing to your new phone.

To enter my giveaway, tell me a story about your worst text message (it may be a text that wasn’t supposed to go to the person you wanted to, or a really bad auto-correct — you may remember the Damn Auto Correct website – I know it’s for iPhone, but I’m really keen on hearing funny stories of mis-typing on a smart phone). Smart phones aren’t sometimes all that smart – or maybe it’s us, the owners! I will confess that my worst text was saying “I love you so much” to an ex of mine (it was intended for my partner, not for my ex!)

To gain an additional entry you can post the following on your Twitter stream:

Told @hummingbird604 about my worst text message to enter to win a Blackberry from @BBYCanadaDeals http://ow.ly/6Hwqv – what is yours?

I will draw 2 random winners from all entries up until Thursday October 6th at 2pm, so that Best Buy Canada can ship your phone on Friday (which coincides with their Free Phone Fridays promotional). Best of luck to everyone who enters!

Sweet! So do the phones you’re giving away also require 3-year new activation? How do we enter?

Not so much to do with texting but I just discovered that every text and message I have sent in the past year has appeared on peoples phones as being from “Captain Underpants” my children changed my caller id and I never knew until this past weekend….

I’ve never sent an embarrassing text message (I’m likely jinxing myself). A couple of text messages I’ve received have been terribly unpleasant, but let’s just leave it at that!

My favourite damn you autocorrect is a husband texts his wife saying “I laid the nanny” then freaks and goes “PAID, PAID, I paid the nanny”. It cracks me up. My worst accidental text was an angry message to a friend about how mad I was at my mom that accidentally got sent to my mom!

The worst case of auto-correctitis that I’ve had was when arranging to meet a friend at the corner near his apartment. Instead of “would you like to meet at Jervis & Davie” came out as “would you like meningitis Dave”

i’ve texted someone something they weren’t supposed to know…. :S

I was texted one friend venting about another one and since i had the other one on my mind it went to her…..

I’ve texted someone that “I’ll bill you later” but accidently sent it as “I’ll kill you later”. That was probably the worst texting error I’ve made so far. I’ve learnt to be more careful from then on.

My story isn’t as hilarious, just awkward: Back in the early days of texting and mobile phones, I didn’t realize people would keep their phones on all night and I would text when struck by insomnia. I quickly learned that my being awake did not mean that everyone was!

CeciliaSeptember 29th, 2011 at 7:29 am

Not me (I’m not that cool), but I overheard that some phones really don’t like the word ‘dimples.’ I’ll leave it up to your imagination to what auto-correct changed this to!

I heard some phones will substitute Satan for Santa – now that could be very amusing!

My 70 year old mother discovered texting and just can’t keep the joy to herself! She texts us all, all the time Which is kinda cute!!

Once I thought texted my friend “I’ll see you at Bell’s!” but it showed up as “I’ll see you in hell!” My friend replied, “Um, are you okay…?”

Haha! We still joke about it today!

My worst text #fail would have to be when I text my husband to bring home some diapers for the babies..and some how, i must have hit the wrong keys and sent him a msg to bring home some drapes for the barbies…and go figure our daughter has a barbie house and he actually came home with curtains he was going to cut up to make some for the doll house,…he never questioned my request lol

Not so fun when done to me ;)

I’ve so many..

Recent bad autotext: A friend of mine shot me a text bragging about how attractive the girl who interviewed him was that morning. I replied with, “The creepmaster always knows best,” but somehow it autocorrected to, “The freeloader always know best.” I think he would have found it equally as funny had he not just moved back in with his folks

Recently misdirected text: I was doing volunteer work at a licensed event. After your shift, you were allowed to sample a couple. It was a long shift, a few of us were tired so we figured we’d really “enjoy ourselves.” I responded to a text from a friend who asked what I was doing, proudly bragging about how much free beer we’ve had. Not my proudest moment when I realized I had sent that to the volunteer coordinator instead of my friend. Needless to say, I was no longer called in for events. D’oh.

A funny message I received:

‘Heeyea lemme seee ya doin ya naked thang when i walk home to the apartments’

The phone was new, the number was recycled and intended for someone else

Worst text message was me texting the message to the wrong recipient!!! Meaning…i was discussing about my gf at the time with my close friend. As a result my Gf broke up with me due to some things she wasn’t suppose to hear. Eekkkk!! That’s what happens when u text too fast!

GraceOctober 6th, 2011 at 2:51 pm

My bestfriend ignored me for a whole week after my iPhone autocorrected “how much?” into hoe much?”. And we all know how sensitive us females are! Hahaha. Fun timessss

StevenOctober 6th, 2011 at 3:19 pm

Well yesterday I told my friend ” I want to sear you sometime this week” when really I was suppose to say I want to see you sometime this week hahaha. Don’t we all love te autocorrect on our iPhones?

A.L.October 6th, 2011 at 4:16 pm

My worst text msg was on meeting location. I texted my friend to meet at “rich city hall” (short for richmond city hall) but it came out as “bich city hall” (which sounded like the forbidden b-word).

JeremyOctober 6th, 2011 at 7:21 pm

I don’t have a cell phone (I know!!!!!) So the worst text message hasn’t happened to me yet :( I would love to win a Blackberry though, my friends would love it too!
