My birthday celebration #hb604bday
In previous years, I have had what I call “birthday season”. As my birthday approaches (my birthday is actually today, September 19th), my friends from various groups (my former classmates from when I did my MBA, and my PhD, ex-coworkers, friends I’ve met through dancing, volleyball and now social media) all take turns taking me out for my birthday.
My good friend Minna asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday with the social media/PR/tech communities, and I figured I’d open the invite to anyone and everyone, including of course many of my good friends (I extended the invite on Facebook only to 402 of my friends, which are the ones who live in British Columbia and mostly, Vancouver).
When we were deciding where to go, I chose Milestones Crossroads, as I knew my good friend Erin Maher (who works there) would probably be able to facilitate the booking, etc. As you may remember, I went to the opening a few months ago, and loved it there ever since (you can follow them at @milestonesxrds). Milestones Crossroads is geographically located in a strategic point: literally stumbling distance from Broadway and Cambie (close to a Canada Line and to the 99 B-Line as well as major routes like the 15 Cambie and 9 Broadway).
I knew that with the likelihood of having between 40 and 80 people show up to my birthday celebration, I needed to ensure the food would be good, the drinks would be awesome and the location would be superb. And while I am really good friends with a lot of local restaurants (including the Glowbal Group, Q4 Restaurant, the Donnelly Group and other hospitality groups), I figured a Friday night downtown would be impossible to hold a reservation for as many people as I had.
I’m delighted to report that everyone had a fantastic time at Milestones Crossroads, much to my delight, and thanks in great part to the fantastic staff (and to my friend Erin too). I enjoyed thoroughly every minute of my celebration (those Erin martinis are lethal and go down SO easily). Milestones Crossroads were kind enough to comp my dinner, which was an additional, very unexpected and very classy touch.
My party took over pretty much one full side of the Milestones Crossroads lounge, which also made me very proud, because I was really flattered that so many good friends would find the time and choose to come celebrate with me. To all of you who attended: THANK YOU. To those who couldn’t make it: next time, and thanks for thinking of me too! And of course, to Milestones Crossroads, thanks for being amazing hosts to my party. Thanks to Minna for putting the invite together and spreading the word. And to all of you who choose to continue to be part of my life and be my friends, thanks again!
The whole photo set of my birthday celebration is here. I purposefully removed photos from folks who choose to be private, but I might upload those to Facebook as we are friends there.
