Vancouver Fringe Festival 2009
I’m a big supporter of the local theatre scene, and the Vancouver Fringe Festival offers a great opportunity to showcase local and international talent. While I’m super busy in the next few days, I’m really looking forward to try and check a few of the shows.
I know for a fact that JT has a tradition of going with a friend of his to the Fringe, although he has also insisted in having me join. This time, I think I’m going to try to check Biographies of the Dead and Dying, not sure if I can make The First Time and Ryan Mooney invited me to Dog Sees God (they’re putting together an ensemble here in Vancouver for that one).
I would strongly encourage people to check out the Vancouver Fringe Festival. It’s wacky, it’s fun and more importantly, it’s local. In their own words:
Presenting live theatre in an informal, accessible and inexpensive environment, the Fringe strives to break down traditional boundaries between audiences and artists, encouraging open dialogue between theatre-goers and theatre-creators. Audiences are invited to experience the work of seasoned veterans and emerging artists. Local, national and international artists benefit from working together and learning from each other in a vibrant and exciting festival atmosphere. In order to stimulate artistic innovation, applications for participation in Fringe Festivals are accepted on a non-juried lottery. This process allows for a wide variety of performances to be presented to the public.

Raul, Kyrsten and I are just in from Biographies of the Dead and Dying – it’s pretty solid. An old buddy of mine is playing the male lead and does a bang-up job. If you can make it out to a show, I highly recommend it.
