Via Beatrice [win tickets!]
My Mom was a trained opera singer, so I grew up listening to arias. I’ve been lucky enough to be part of the Blogger Night program by the Vancouver Opera before (also, Tris took me to see Carmen and we did a video review for Sexy in VanCity, and my very good friend JT took me to see Rigoletto, which I also reviewed). Therefore, it’s no surprise that I’m intrigued to know what Via Beatrice is all about. I am most intrigued because the world premiere of this Fugue Theatre production took place on August 14th at the Playwrights Theatre Centre (Granville Island). I’m delighted that I’ve been invited to see it.
I’ll be giving away a pair of tickets for this operetta, so to enter the contest, just drop a comment on this post. Via Beatrice will run from August 19th to the 22nd, so you might want to check it out soon. From the production’s website:
A woman travels to Italy after the suicide of her daughter. They were supposed to take the trip together. Practically giving up all hope for life itself, the woman stumbles upon a haunted tour of Rome led by a slick Italian tour guide. He has his own demons. Together, they become entwined with the ghost of Beatrice Cenci in a roller-coaster ride of sensuality, fright, grief and hope.
You can purchase tickets online ($25 general admission, $18 students/seniors with ID). I will be drawing randomly a winner tomorrow (Tuesday) at 2pm.

I have always, always wanted to go to the opera. I finally managed to make it the ballet last year and it was wonderful. Next up… opera.
