Canadian social media and social computing data/statistics
Despite the fact that I was already fully sick by the time I woke up this morning, I had the pleasure of attending a keynote address by Kate Trgovac, dear friend of mine and one of Canada’s most influential people in social media. The seminar was organized by CNW Group, and as expected, Kate did a fantastic job.
In her talk, she shared some data profiling the Canadian consumer of internet data (see her excellent slides here). For the longest time, whenever I see data on social computing and social media analysis, it’s always coming from the Pew Internet & American Life Project. In conversations with Dave Jones, Kirk Lapointe, Lorraine Murphy and Kate Trgovac (on Twitter) I lamented that we didn’t have the same Pew-like data for Canada.
Well, Dave Jones was kind enough to share the idea of the Canadian Internet Project and I was blown away. In many ways, yes, the data is very similar to Pew. For my next academic talk on social media and social computing I am definitely going to ask permission to use CIP data.
I *love* Twitter because it allows me to learn SO much! Thanks everyone!
