Waiting for Superman (win tickets to the premiere Oct 13th)
Given that I am an educator and that I teach at a Canadian university, I thought it would be rather relevant to showcase the movie “Waiting for Superman”, by Davis Guggenheim. From the website’s synopsis, I found out that the movie follows the stories of five kids embedded in the US education system.
I have in total 4 tickets (2 pairs) to give away for the Vancouver premiere of Waiting for Superman on October 13th at 7pm at 5th Avenue Cinemas. I will be drawing winners tomorrow (Tuesday October 12th at 5:00pm). I will follow the same procedure as always, but since the premiere is on Wednesday, I will redraw again within a few hours if I don’t hear from the winner.
Good luck, and I look forward to meet the winner(s) of my contest on Wednesday!

This is a fantastic doc – although some segments are a bit deceptive/overstated (a la Michael Moore) you’ll be inspired to look at public education with fresh eyes. Best of luck to contest entrants – enjoy the film 🙂
This is an awesome movie! Saw a bit of it on Oprah and I’m convinced I need to see this movie. I might even line up in the cold for it hahahah .
This looks like a pretty interesting movie. The director was interviewed on a late night talk show (I forget which one) a while back and he said something like Americans are 25th out of 29 developed countries in standardized math/science tests but they are overwhelmingly #1 in self-described confidence. Go figure.
I too first heard about this on Oprah – it’s scary to think that some kids only get into great schools by “lottery.” I’d love to see the movie to find out more! =)
I hear it’s a must see! Hope to catch it soon.
What’s the procedure? 🙁
This looks great! I saw it featured on Oprah and am totally interested in seeing it!!
I saw the promo for this and would love to see it. My own child is at an inner city school and I’m on the PAC and the situation here in Canada is bad – but just go across the border and the funding situation is even worse.
PS: If I happen to have my name drawn, I won’t be able to reply till 9 pm or later, as I will be at class.
I hear it’s a great movie, would love to watch it.
As a former teacher and tutor, I also feel a strong calling to this movie. Hope to see it soon!
