Win tickets to @PacificTheatre’s The Last 5 Years
As the summer season winds up, more theatre companies are launching their new productions, and my long-time friends and partners in art, the folks of Pacific Theatre are putting together their new productions. Stone’s Throw Productions’ presentation of THE LAST 5 YEARS by Jason Robert Brown at the Pacific Theatre is one of them. The Last 5 Years is a musical that depicts two New Yorkers who fall in and out of love over the course of 5 years. It runs July 15-17 at Pacific Theatre with a pay-what-you-can preview on July 14th.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased through Pacific Theatre (phone 604.731.5518). I really loved the line at the beginning of the press release: Relationships start, relationships end, and then we write musicals about them. Awesome.
I found intriguing the process through which the play is developed.
The show’s unconventional structure has Cathy, the woman, begin the play at the end of their relationship, telling her side of the story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his side chronologically. The couple meets only once, in the middle of the play when they get married and pledge their lifelong love for one another.

Featuring Shalyn McFaul as Cathy, fresh off her apprenticeship at Pacific Theatre and featured role in Godspell and Joshua McFaul, a classically trained singer who has a foot in the world of both musical theatre and opera, as Jamie. Directed by Heather Teeter with musical direction by Dave Rosborough. Lighting design is by Jin Kim. The live 6-piece band consists of Dave Rosborough on piano, Kathleen Nisbet on violin, Noah James on cello, Joyce Ma on viola, Taylor Caswell on Bass, and Matthew MacArthur on guitar.
Hmmm…well I think the positive in this case was that it was mercifully brief 😉 how’s that?

The positive thing about my last relationship… was that it ended 🙂
I suppose another positive thing is I learned a lot.
I finally found a man that actually likes going to Theatre with me. It’s one of the many reasons I married him a month ago today.
