Volunteer Futures 2012: Embracing Change (September 27, 28, 2012)

It is no surprise that when Volunteer BC pitched me to write about Volunteer Futures 2012: Embracing Change (their annual conference, which this year takes place over two days, September 27th and 28th, 2012), I decided to write about it. After all, I have volunteered ALL MY LIFE. I can’t define myself without a volunteer, community-focused slant in my work. I also profile non-profits, volunteering opportunities and charitable organizations rather frequently on my blog, so this is a perfect fit.

Volunteer Futures, September 27 & 28 2012 is Volunteer BC’s annual training event – Embracing Change for volunteer and non profit sector leaders from around the province. Our event brings leaders from small organizations in rural BC and their colleagues from urban non-profits where they can come together to learn, interact and grow their organizations.

Like other sectors of the BC economy, the non-profit sector is experiencing significant changes. This year’s event will focus on these changes and will encourage innovative partnerships, help you connect with others, facilitate a flow of information and spark new ideas. The world of volunteerism is changing and this event will share and help support the non-profit sector to take advantage of these opportunities.

It’s even more of a perfect fit because the keynote speaker for Volunteer Futures 2012 is my good friend Richard Loat, who founded Five Hole For Food (you may recall that I’ve participated in the Celebrities and Mainstream Media game of FHFF before, although this year, sadly, I wasn’t in Vancouver to actually be able to support it myself).

But I’m really glad that Volunteer BC invited Richard to keynote. We are good friends and we both volunteer extensively for our communities. We share many similar values and a great friendship. It sounds like it will be an inspiring two days. It will take place at the Richmond Four Points by Sheraton Hotel.
