The first time I saw Buddy (The Buddy Holly Story), the fantastic musical that will rock the stages of the Stanley Industrial Alliance Theatre this summer, I took my friend Trevor Boudreau along with me. It was a beautiful, warm and sunny night and we had a great time. Looking at the weather forecast in Vancouver for this weekend inspired me to partner with The Arts Club and West Restaurant to offer a lucky reader of mine a fantastic chance to take someone out for a perfect summer night out: dinner for two (Chef’s Tasting Menu, valid Sunday – Thursday, exclusive of beverages and gratuity) at West Restaurant, and tickets to opening night of Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story at the Stanley Industrial Alliance. To me, that sounds like a pretty damn good summer night out!

Following a sold-out 2010 run at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage and a successful 2011 provincial tour, Buddy returns to the Stanley stage with Zachary Stevenson as the titular star. Stevenson’s spot-on performance, touted as one of the greatest seen on a Vancouver stage in recent years, will have audiences on their feet and dancing out of the theatre.
In 1989, Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story premiered in London’s West End and ran for 13 years. It has been seen by over 20 million people in over 20,000 performances worldwide. Alan Janes was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Musical and internationally Buddy has received 13 nominations and awards.

Any sunny summer night in Vancouver is perfect! But my favourite is a picnic dinner with my husband on Jericho beach.
Evening out at Theatre Under the Stars
An extended BBQ/picnic on the beach with good friends, playing some bocce or volleyball or something.
There can’t be any more perfect summer nights in Vancouver, because I can’t share them with Raul!

A walk around the sea wall and then a lovely dinner at a water view restaurant would be a perfect sunny evening in Vancouver for me.
Perfect summer’s night out in #YVR? Last night was pretty good: a Friday evening stroll along Commercial Drive, a light dinner with friends – salad, tapas, cocktails, beers at Biercraft Tapas, followed by more strolling. Spumoni, espresso, and playful instagram action at Cafe Calabria. Poking our heads in at some of the many live music venues going full-on with the doors and windows wide open. Window shopping and drooling over shoes-beyond-my-reach at Kalina’s. Driving back to our delish Granville & 13th pied-a-terre with the windows open, smelling Vancouver’s (finally warm) summer by-the-sea air. Parking the car and walking into @WestRestaurant for some great attention from David, Justin, and Sabine. Then home to bed. Yup. Doesn’t get much better than that.

A perfect day for me is riding a bike along the sea-wall in Stanley Park, then dining at one of the local eats such as Mediterranean food nearby. Working off the food by heading up and down Robson to check out Summer sales, then finishing off with taking Cupcakes back to the beach.

The perfect summer night would be doing some yoga on the beach with friends at English bay and then heading down to Denman for some ice cream afterwards. Afterwards, we would head back down to the beach to watch the sunset and catch up on girl talk!
Just like last night buddies of mine were lost in the woods around Cap River with some flashlights, sitting around and talking about stuff until the morning with a bunch of beers.
On top of Grouse Mountain observing the sunset on a clear warm summer’s eve, Vancouver would really look perfect to me.
Beach and BBQ of course, plenty of beers.

A hot summer day, sitting on a sailboat with a good book & a cold beverage & watching the sun set & the sky light up with stars.
A perfect night for me would be a late bike ride followed by a picnic on the beach and fireworks (because I imagine fireworks would magically appear on this perfect night).

My perfect night would be dinner somewhere close to the water with a nice view, followed by a show or a movie with lots of laughs, and at the end a nice stroll through downtown to the the skytrain enjoying the night air.
Bike ride along the seawall, followed by oysters and wine at Lift’s patio to enjoy the view of mountains and fresh air.

perfect summer nights these days involve a bit of dancing at Robson Square followed by a stroll to the waterfront and some time on a patio by the water. Ideally chocolate or ice cream is involved at some point.
My perfect night is a picnic in the stanley park, hanging out with the busters, taking pictures of the wildlife and then watching a movie/play in the park 🙂
Perfect summer nights would be bringing some hot dogs and buns to the spanish banks and having a small BBQ with friends and playing some ultimate frisbee or volleyball. And of course having a nice glass of Sangria and watching the sun go down 🙂

The perfect summer night out in #YVR would be watching the sunset from Granville Island, strolling from the seawall to the art galleries of South Granville, eating at West, attending one of the finest live performances at the Stanley and then finishing off the night with fireworks and hot chocolate.
A perfect summer night in vancouver would be a bonfire by the beach while hanging out with my closest friends!
