World Refugee Day Vancouver 2012 is June 20th

Via my former student Emelie Peacock, I found out about World Refugee Day Vancouver 2012 at the Vancouver Public Library. I know for a fact that the situation with Canada’s policy on refugees is getting challenging, so I am happy to provide some coverage for the event. You should check it out.

Where: Vancouver Public Library – on the concourse of the Main Branch of the Vancouver Public Library located at
350 West Georgia Street
When: On June 20, 2012 from 11AM to 4PM.
Who: Join for a variety of activities, displays and special presentations by the theatre group, and World Refugee Day 2012 presenters and speakers.
What: A public education event to highlight the situation of refugees internationally and locally.

– To educate the public about who refugees are and why they have come to Canada
– To help people understand the many challenges refugees face
– To celebrate the contribution refugees make to our community
– To explore how our community can provide a safe and welcoming environment for refugees
– To provide an opportunity for refugees to learn about local services and supports available for them
