Connect The Dots and International Stop The Tar Sands Day (May 5th)

May 5th is an international day of action and awareness for two events – 350.org’s Connect the Dots and International Stop the Tar Sands Day!

In the true spirit of solving problems, these events are joining forces in Vancouver.

There are two ways to mark the occasions with us:

1) Come down to English Bay Beach (roughly where Denman meets Beach) any time between noon and 3:00, and bring any questions you have about the tar sands, oil tankers, pipelines, or Vancouver oil issues. You can talk to people who have answers to your questions, or you can get literature from one of our volunteers that helps connect all the dots! Look for all the ‘dots’ running around, or, if you like, stand somewhere remotely near us, and we’ll find you! Bring something to eat and a frisbee or an instrument to play and join us for a picnic from 2:00 to 3:00.

2) Volunteer to help distribute information to passersby in the English Bay area from noon to 2:00 on the afternoon of Saturday May 5th. This will be done in pairs, in a fun, creative way, that emphasizes the importance of community, big-picture understanding of the environmental problems we’re facing, and the real-world solutions we can all employ to make an impact. You don’t need to have a ton of experience with these issues to help. Bring something to eat and a frisbee or an instrument to play and join us for a picnic from 2:00 to 3:00.

So put on your polka dots and head down to the beach where we’ll help you get big-picture with a lot of issues that, let’s face it, can be pretty tough to piece together. Whether you’re helping out on the day, or doing your part by getting informed about these issues, please join us as we mark these international days of action and awareness.
