Spring is almost here! Turn your clocks ahead one hour this weekend.
As someone who is afflicted with S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder), January and February are incredibly difficult months. What I usually do to battle this is to schedule myself to teach 2 courses. Because early Spring is usually “abstract-sending-season” (e.g. writing abstracts to present scholarly research at conferences), the workload is so huge that I don’t even have time to think about feeling down and blue with the horrible weather.
This Spring 2012 I am only teaching one course, because I need to concentrate on finishing 2 book manuscripts and about 7 journal articles, and thus my schedule, while still packed with activity, is much more flexible than any usual Spring. Thus, my sleep patterns have been screwed up (on top of having been sick and pretty much unconscious for two weeks).
Today I woke up at 6:15am feeling perfectly normal even though I went to bed after midnight. This is a sign. This means that my highest productivity period begins right about now (yes, during periods like this I can work pretty much 20 hours a day). And I CAN’T WAIT. Spring is almost here!
For those of you in Canada, you should turn your clocks ahead one hour this weekend. That means that we will start seeing sunsets at 7pm, which is a much more decent hour than 4pm. I’m SO EXCITED!!!
