Diwali 2011: 8th annual Light your Spirit festival
The Vancouver Diwali Festival: Light your Spirit, runs October 15 – 23. In partnership with Vancouver Board of Parks & Recreation, a variety of venues will host special performances, workshops, and – my favourite – henna studios! Decorate your skin in beautiful designs and tones in celebration of Diwali. There will be events for just about everyone: ranging from traditional to contemporary, costly to free, and throughout the day.
Sunday, October 23rd is Diwali Downtown: a full-day celebration of Indian arts and culture. The Roundhouse will be taken over by family friendly events, dance, music, and Indian food!
One of the most important holidays in the South Asian calendar, Diwali involves the lighting of small clay lamps (or diyas) filled with oil to signify the triumph of good over evil. It also involves dancing, music, and food. This year, Vancouver Celebrates Diwali celebrates its eighth anniversary with its biggest festival yet! There will be workshops, performances, and festivities spanning the week of October 15-23.
