National Ballet of Canada on tour (giveaway)
To celebrate its 60th anniversary, the National Ballet of Canada is currently on tour with many exclusive pieces for the Vancouver crowd.
Vancouver Premiere: the second detail, choreographed by the great ballet provocateur William Forsythe, opens the evening with attitude, featuring an electronic score and hard-edged, playfully physical choreography that will inspire all who attend.
Jerome Robbins’ Other Dances features a timeless score by Chopin. This extended pas de deux has been heralded as “sheer magic” by The New York Times and an “unforgettable tribute to Chopin” by Ballet Magazine.
Vancouver Premiere: Choreographed by James Kudelka, The Man in Black is a celebration of American working-class grit and of the man whose voice embodied it, Johnny Cash. The choreography, like the six Cash songs that inspire it, is an ode to the human spirit.
Vancouver Premiere: Choreographed by Canadian Crystal Pite, Emergence is a riveting work that captures the hidden world of insects through innovative choreography that has won awards and critical acclaim across the country.

I suppose it might be cliched to say The Nutcracker, but I’ll never tire of it, despite seeing it so many times.
Hmm..I have only been to The Nutcracker live, so that limits my choice to The Nutcracker by default. I do like the music for Romeo and Juliet as well as the Firebird by Stravinsky.
Of the classical ballets, I love Romeo and Juliet, Giselle and Don Quiote! I also do love contemporary ballet and am very excited about the National Ballet of Canada’s tour.
My favourite ballet was Ballet BC’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, staged many years ago when the company was still under the direction of John Alleyne. Emily Molnar played Puck and I was enthralled by her performance from start to finish. The ballet was minimalistic, sexy, and seductive. I’ll never forget it.
I was lucky enough to see The Rite of Spring – fantastic performances – these are visually stuning performances done by such creative dancers who never fail to impress me with their dedication.
Streetcar Named Desire – many yearsa ago…loved the play – never thought it could be a ballet!

I saw “The Firebird” At the Hummingbird Centre in Toronto. There is something wonderful in the fantastical nature of it.
I really enjoy Swan lake, it is an extremely beautiful piece with aesthetic musical value and depth 🙂

My favorite ballet was the first ballet presentation i saw on my life, in Mexico City. Cinderella ballet… Since then, i took ballet lessons following my mothers steps, cause she was a proffessional ballet dancer 🙂
My favourite is Swan Lake. I love the story, the music, the characters, the costumes, the dancing.
