TOUGH! by Twenty-Something Theatre

Another week, another play!

As the Vancouver International Fringe Festival 2011 approaches, we’ll have a ton of plays to preview and review for you, so stay tuned in the next few weeks if you’re into drama and Fringe-y things. And if you’re not, we’ll turn you into fans, too!

In any case, today’s featured play is TOUGH!, written by George F. Walker, directed by Tamara McCarthy and produced by Twenty-Something Theatre. While it’s not part of Fringe, Twenty Something Theatre always put together great plays showcasing amazing new talent and, as you know, we love to encourage local and fresh theatre.

Contemporary Canadian drama deserves more exposure than it has had these days; the Canadian literary scene is often overshadowed by American and British imports. Written in 1993 and yet still relevant, the story of TOUGH! is simple yet never out of date:

Bobby and Tina are nineteen. Bobby gets caught cheating. Tina finds out she’s pregnant. Jill, Tina’s best friend, hates Bobby and welcomes the opportunity to kick his ass. Sometimes life is tough.
