Twitter turns 5

The world is all a-twitter because today is Twitter‘s 5th anniversary (coincidentally, my blog turns 5 years in April of 2011). I am grateful to have Twitter, to be quite honest. It’s allowed me to make new friends, stay in touch with others whom I don’t see often, it’s a fantastic tool to disseminate my academic, consulting and social media work, and my students use it to communicate with me in a fast and timely manner. More importantly, having joined Twitter made my life so much richer. I don’t think I would have the reach, the voice or the community I have now if it weren’t for Twitter. So, thank you Twitter, and happy 5th year! You don’t look one day older than 5. Now, please don’t Fail Whale on me, mmmkay?

I like the idea that in five short years Twitter has moved the masses to a whole new level of cleverly adapting to a 140 character way of communicating. …and it has created a whole new way of spelling and emotion symbolism through punctuation text. =D
