Go for dinner at one of the The Heather Hospitality Group restaurants (on the house)
I have had many a beers with my friend Lorraine Murphy (aka Raincoaster) at The Irish Heather, I said goodbye to my good friend Nancy Zimmerman (aka MoneyCoach) at The Salty Tongue and I have had many a drink with my good friend Dave Macdonald at the Shebeen Whiskey House. I’ve enjoyed dinner at Salt Tasting Room and Judas Goat and coffee at Everything Cafe – thus I’m quite familiar with The Heather Hospitality Group.
I’ve been approached by the social media team behind The Heather Hospitality Group to do a giveaway of a $100 gift certificate honored at the Heather Hospitality Group restaurant of your choice for you to enjoy (normally, I would say – go there for dinner! but you’re more than welcome to use it for lunch if you want to, or just for drinks). I will run this giveaway until Sunday night March 13th at 10pm and announce the winner on Monday March 14th at 10am in the morning.
I like to do, as you know, my contests rather unique, so since St. Patrick’s Day is approaching quickly, why don’t I ask you to tell me how you celebrated St. Paddy’s last year? I will admit that last year I basically did nothing, but other years I’ve done crazy stuff like go to Irish bars and drink green beer! I am on par with you Raul, last year I took it light. But in many years past I have torn it up. The best was when I worked in the ski industry…like they need another reason to party but many a year we kicked it up a notch.
I may very well get my green on again this year though!
I also did nothing the last year. But in one previous year, I celebrated with a friend by watching a street parade.
I invited a few friends over and had a St. Patrick’s Day themed party. Wearing some green was a requirement.
I watch bad movies like “Darby O’Gill and the Little People.” I love the Irish Heather and would love the opportunity to avoid the T.V. this year.
I did nothing last year except wear something (or somethings!) green. I’m not much of a St. Paddy’s person when it comes to celebrating it. I am, however, a very proud Celt.
I believe last year I walked past the Irish Heather and got pulled in. Six hours later I stumbled home. There are some perks to going to a place for 14 straight years.
So last year as others have wrote not so crazy but two years ago in honor of my father being 1/2 Irish I had our family name tattooed onto my forearm “McGovern” and I’m proud to show it off whenever I can, especially Mar. 17th every year!
I didn’t do anything crazy last year, but a few friends and I gathered at our friend’s downtown condo to enjoy green martinis and green beers (while decked out in green of course). We may’ve also joined in with the screams of rowdy people in the streets.
What was it about last yr?! I didn’t do anything either! I think St Patty’s fell in the middle of the week last yr and received a lackluster celebration as a result.
My best St Patty’s were definitely celebrated during my college years at Blarney Stone, Doolin’s, or Ceili’s.
Last year’s St Paddy’s day? Not a thing… which is shocking, as my heritage is from Donegal on the West Coast of Ireland.
I went to a friend’s house party. Everything was green.

Like you, last year I didn’t do too much on St. Patrick’s Day. I was actually working hard for the Paralympic Winter Games!
I was really busy with my school last year after the Olympic 2 week break, so I didn’t get the chance to celebrate it. But the year before I volunteered for the celticfest.
I was entertaining an international visitor. He questioned green beer at first but soon stopped as we progressed along Granville St pubs!
I also did nothing last year, just like you and many of your readers – I wonder what it was about last year?!
That was an exception for me though; most years I end up at some pub with good friends where we drink green beer and enjoy all the merriment around us.
I went to all the Pubs with my buddies in Victoria last year when I was still at Uvic! Not a fan of beer..especially green beer..but hey its once a year! haha
