65 Red Roses Benefit Concert (win tickets)

Eva Markvoort Blogging has been for me a labour of love. Sharing my story with the world for almost 5 years now has become so important to my life that I have committed to maintaining a full-time academic/consulting life and social media/blogging life. One of the bloggers I didn’t get to meet and wish I had is Eva Markvoort (a New Westminster blogger well known for her blog 65 Red Roses). Eva Markvoort passed away last March after a lifetime battle with cystic fibrosis. My good friend Kim Bowie is organizing a benefit concert at the Massey Theatre in New West on Feb 11th.

Headlining is Dan Mangan with the Zolas and Hannah Georgas as well as Corrina Corrina. All of them are doing it for free with all ticket sales going to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Eva’s name. Dan performed the closing track on Eva’s multiple award winning film, 65_RedRoses. Philip Lyall co-directed the film and he will be emceeing the event.

Eva Markvoort I have been given a pack of 4 tickets for the concert with additional perks. The bands have all agreed to meet the winners backstage and hang out with them. The winner of my giveaway will get 4 tickets, meet and greet with the bands and transportation to and from the event, plus signed stuff from the bands. To enter my giveaway, drop a comment on this blog post telling me about your favorite flower and/or color. I do know from what I have read that Eva’s favorite color was red (hence the title of her blog, 65 Red Roses). This is an amazing opportunity to see some spectacularly good musicians for a very good charitable cause and I would strongly encourage you to buy tickets to the concert. The link to the Facebook event is here.

You have until January 26th at 5pm to enter my giveaway. You can also earn an additional entry to the contest by tweeting the text below:

Thank you Raul! You are truly the biggest hearted person and the whole CF team and Eva’s family is thrilled you are doing this! I don’t want to win BUT my favourite flower is lily of the valley.

My favourite flower is bird of paradise.

HollyJanuary 19th, 2011 at 4:57 pm

I love daffodils. Even in the deepest of winter they summon up their courage and stick their fragile little necks up to let us know that the sunshine yellow of spring isn’t be far behind.

Teresa KJanuary 19th, 2011 at 7:14 pm

Blue is my favourite colour.

JeffJanuary 19th, 2011 at 11:38 pm

Red is the colour. What a great concert lineup!

My favourite colour is blue.

Roses are seducing, and yet there’s something special about the underrated sweet pea.

BTW – I wish I had met Eva as well. I started following her blog the day after she got her lung transplant. She was on the cover of the Province or the Sun as this fragile little girl holding onto her teddy bear… it was heart breaking. I had no idea who she was, but I had to learn more. Little did I know…

LaurenJanuary 20th, 2011 at 10:06 pm

I love roses and I also have a soft spot for lilies of the valley.

My favourite flower is sunflower. When my two best friends and I were 7 we got matching sunflower T-shirts and our moms called us the Sunflower Girls. We all vowed to get sunflower tattoos when we were older but so far I’m the only one who’s gone through with it.

My favorite color and flower are pink gerber daisys.

My best friend, Cheryl, who was friends with Eva, passed away from CF in October 2009. Through the 10 years I knew Cheryl, I watched the terrible affects of CF. I miss her terribly

Being a mom of a CF teenage girl I commend all for putting on a wonderful event as this! 🙂 As for the flower… my daughter is 13.. diagnosed at 3… That day it became the rose…. may its petals never fall….

my favorite color is pink , the reason for that is that pink as been the color of everything i have ever had since i was a baby! I have blonde hair and i feel like the color has always been a good color for my skin tone. Even at my high school prom my dress was the perfect color of pink! I have a love of the color pink and forever well!

JacquelineJanuary 26th, 2011 at 1:34 pm

I recently posted a msg on fb asking if people remembered the experience of smelling/playing with flowers when they were a kid. The memory of smelling a tulip had been triggered in me recently and oh what a feeling I got… How wonderful it was to be a kid and truly experience things – so many simple experiences we now miss out on as adults, mostly b/c we’re too busy with ‘life’ and partly b/c many of us are out of touch. Think about it… smell a flower one day, any flower… be present in that moment to truly experience the essence of that flower and allow its scent to penetrate your being and touch your heart. Reconnect with you!

yellow; makes everything happier

BonnieJanuary 26th, 2011 at 6:55 pm

My favourite colour is yellow – it is the colour of sunshine. It represents who my little girl was to me – my sunshine; my light. Our little girl came to an abrupt end to a short life; but was able to donate all of her organs, including both her lungs to a CF sufferer in Toronto, ON. I miss my girl, but am so proud of her for the gift she has given others. It makes each day easier knowing the young woman who received her lungs is doing very well – ran a marathon of all things. I wish all of you out there every good thing life has to offer and I hope everyone’s wishes come true for a long healthy and happy life.
