Flashmob Caroling for Climate Action this coming Sunday Dec 19th

You may have heard recently of Sophie Harrison, who recently got interviewed by The Tyee (she is a Grade 11 student at Prince of Wales Secondary School who started the youth group Kids for Climate Action). Check out their website or their Facebook page to find out about upcoming events, which includes this Sunday’s flash-mob climate Christmas carolling.

Kids for Climate Action is now organizing a flash mob for climate action. We’ve adapted the words to ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town.’ Come out to sing and dance about climate change — it’ll be lots of fun and a great way to get our message across.

At 3:00 on Sunday, December 19th we will begin our flash mob in the food court of Pacific Center. It will start with group of about five somewhere in the middle of the food court, and then everyone else will join in. Remember — we have to be inconspicuous before we start. It would be great if people could just be sitting down eating, or milling about. Also, as soon as the song is over, act like nothing has just happened. Go back to eating your food, or just walk off.

At 3:20 we will hit a second location – Georgia St and Granville. Make sure everyone trickles out of the food court at different times, so it’s not obvious where we are going next. We will be doing our flash mob on the same corner as the Canada line exit.

I do know Sophie Harrison in person, and I’m very proud of her for taking steps to engage youth, educate them and galvanize them into action.
