Queer Arts Festival 2012

This weekend is Vancouver Pride Festival and Parade and as you know, I’m a big supporter of queer issues, even more so when projects involve two of my most beloved causes: the arts AND queerness. I have had an incredibly busy few months (those of you who think I’m only having fun travelling through Mexico, let me tell you: no, I have A LOT of work this summer!) so I totally missed out on giving you a preview of Vancouver’s own Queer Arts Festival 2012.

The Queer Arts Festival in Vancouver, BC, is an annual showcase of queer arts, culture and history. It celebrates the unique creative expressions of visual and performing artists who identify as part of the queer communities. QAF features a curated visual art exhibit, a community art show, and three dynamic weeks of cutting-edge performances and workshops from all artistic disciplines, including music, dance, theatre, literary and media arts. Our 2012 theme, Random Acts of Queerness, commemorates the centenary of the experimental queer artist John Cage (1912-1992). Cage’s multidisciplinary artistic practice, experimental approach, and openly queer life elegantly exemplify
QAF’s mandate and values.

I am SO sorry that I missed the opportunity to give away tickets to the first lesbian opera, When The Sun Comes Out, presented by the Queer Arts Film Festival 2012. But you still can check many of their events. The lineup looks amazing.

All events, workshops & performances are held at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown: 181 Roundhouse Mews (Pacific & Davie). The Roundhouse is a fully wheelchair accessible venue.
