National Tequila Day 2012 (July 24th)
As a Mexican national, I feel incredibly proud of Tequila, the throat-burning, heart-warming spirit that has become pretty much the national drink of Mexico. Most people I know seem to think that tequila and mezcal are about the same thing (they are not). You can only manufacture tequila either in the city of Tequila (in the Mexican state of Jalisco) or in other regions that have the denomination of origin. Apparently, today (July 24th) is National Tequila Day, and I am definitely going to celebrate it! (I am in Mexico right now). I also have to admit I’m a bit of a tequila snob. I don’t like just *any* tequila.
And yes, I will fully admit that I look down on people who *think* they know tequila, when obviously they don’t! You know who you are… The one thing I recommend when tasting tequila is – make sure you drink tequila WITHOUT any mix BEFORE you make a Margarita or a Paloma.
