Walk for Rape Relief 2012 (Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter) May 26th

One of the most taboo topics and one that folks tend to overlook when promoting non-profit organizations is that of sexual abuse, particular of women. The Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter is one of several organizations that focus on helping women who have suffered abuse, particularly sexual abuse, and many of their clients come from the Downtown East Side. Thus I wanted to promote their forthcoming event, the Vancouver Walk for Rape Relief 2012, to take place on Sunday May 26th.

It’s time to get ready and excited for the Walk for Rape Relief! This year it’s happening on the last Sunday in May and we’re looking forward to walking, pedaling, rollerblading, and wheeling around the beautiful Stanley Park seawall with you! When it comes to ending violence against women, it’s easy to talk the talk, but let’s walk the walk together! Come out and show your support for your local women’s shelter!

The Walk for Rape Relief has been an annual community event for over 30 years. We will meet again this year at Ceperley Park in Stanley Park. The Walk is an opportunity for men and women to actively change their world. Walkers collect pledges, and these proceeds provide the means to operate a transition house for battered women and their children, and a 24 hour crisis line for women escaping male violence.

This sounds like a relevant project and hopefully some of you will be able to participate.
