A #PerfectSunday with @WestRestaurant @TheArtsClub and @hummingbird604
As you know, brunch is one of my favorite meals of the day, and I absolutely love and adore theatre. So, what better way to combine them for a Perfect Sunday? My definition of a perfect Sunday, is in fact having brunch with my friends and then taking in a theatre matinee. So, I was thrilled when West Restaurant and The Arts Club agreed to partner with me for a contest to offer one of my lucky readers and a guest a taste of a Perfect Sunday.
Recognized as the ‘jewel in Vancouver’s culinary crown’, West’s outstanding contemporary regional cuisine and seamless service has earned much critical acclaim. Pristine seasonal ingredients are sourced to deliver superbly conceived dishes offering modern interpretations of classics. For those keen to observe ‘behind the scenes’ action and experience West from a unique perspective, the two ‘chef’s tables’ can be found directly adjacent to the presentation kitchen. One of the highlights of the dining room is a temperature-controlled wall of wine, and under it, the long cherry wood bar that gracefully anchors the conversation—where martinis and cocktails are composed of fresh herbs, juices and creative infusions.
You will be treated to Sunday Brunch at West Restaurant (West just launched their new Sunday brunch menu). West was kind enough to throw in not only Sunday Brunch for two, but also their special bubbly brunch cocktails. As if that wasn’t enough for a wonderful Sunday, The Arts Club kindly offered me in exclusive a pair of tickets to the matinee function on April 8th, at 2pm at the Stanley Industrial Alliance of the wonderful show The Importance of Being Earnest (total duration of the show is 2 hours and 35 minutes).
What happens when two wealthy playboys—one in the city, one in the country—each pretends to be named Ernest so that he can behave recklessly without besmirching his reputation? In this hilarious Oscar Wilde satire, arguably the wittiest play in the English canon, pandemonium ensues when the duplicitous duo find themselves together, both masquerading as the same person, with each wooing a different woman!
To enter my giveaway, all you need to do is describe to me what a Perfect Sunday looks like to you. The version that I’m offering here on the giveaway is definitely a personal favorite, but another perfect Sunday used to be going for breakfast with my Mom and my brothers, followed by shopping, a nap and then taking in a movie and having dinner together. Family time is super important to me, and I look forward to going back to Mexico to do that at least once this year.
So, tell me in the comments section what a Perfect Sunday looks like to you. If you want to earn an additional entry, post the following text on your Twitter stream (note, I’ll count the second entry AFTER you have posted a comment with your description of what is your definition of a perfect Sunday).
Shared my #PerfectSunday w/ @hummingbird604 http://is.gd/GNjf9Z to enter to win a brunch @WestRestaurant & show @TheArtsClub prize pack
I will draw a lucky winner on April 5th at 2pm. As with any of my contests, you will have 24 hours to respond and accept the draw prize and provide me with your full name and contact details so I can pass them along to The Arts Club and West Restaurant for a reservation under your name for Sunday Brunch at West Restaurant and tickets at Will Call at the box office at the Stanley (arrive 15-30 minutes prior to the show to pick up your tickets).
Good luck everyone, and thanks to The Arts Club and West Restaurant for partnering with me to offer a lucky reader a taste of a Perfect Sunday.

Mmmm. Perfect Sunday? Sleeping in, then coffee in bed with my two favourite dudes. A sunny dog walk and then out for brunch. After that, maybe a trip to the park or the market, a nap, some time with a good book. Time to leisurely labour over making and eating a great dinner. Wine, sunset, fin.
My perfect sunday would involve getting up early and catching up on missed Coronation Street episodes, followed by brunch and a stroll (perhaps cupcakes are in order). After that, probably reading and napping on the sofa, then making a great dinner. If it’s nice out, perhaps a walk.
My perfect Sunday would be sleeping in, enjoying coffee on the balcony, brunch with my husband and a walk along the seawall or in Steveston. Then an afternoon nap, make dinner together and a movie!
My perfect sunday would be sleeping in, then brunch with my husband, followed by catching up on the TV shows on my PVR, a nap, and then a casual dinner out somewhere.
My perfect Sunday is sleeping in a bit, then going out do some activities in the sun, like walking or biking, or even skiing 🙂
My perfect Sunday probably consists of sleeping in, then grabbing a coffee in bed as I slowly wake up. Then, meeting friends for a relaxing walk outside, around the seawall and maybe grabbing brunch. Thinking about this is making me smile…
Late morning, good coffee and danishes, walk in park with family, long lunch, and dessert somewhere special!
My perfect Sunday would be to get up at 8:30 and have tea and coffee on our balcony in a comfy chair with our feet up and the warm 20 degree sun warming down on us while dreaming about retirement and our next holiday. We’d go out for brunch or lunch with family or friends and then rent a double seater bike and do the seawall while enjoying the scenery and admiring the beautiful spring flowers; stopping every few minutes to take a picture and feed my husband a chocolate each time I stop just to make it a little more fun. We’d get cleaned up and then go to the Stanley Alliance Theatre (which is on my bucket list). We’d go early so somebody could take a picture of us walking down Granville (in black and white). We’d go to the show, it would be amazing, then we’d talk about how much we enjoyed it over dinner, somewhere nearby (wink, wink). Of course there would be 36 hrs in this day so we would get home in time to listen to some good tunes, look at our pictures of the day while enjoying some more chocolate and maybe some port and still get to bed in time to get 9 hrs of sleep:)
My perfect sunday would be brunch with friends, followed by a stroll around Stanley Park, a picnic on the beach to watch the sunset and a nice glass of red wine at Cardero’s to conclude the weekend.
My perfect Sunday would be to sleep in, snuggle in bed for a few minutes before being jumped on by our dog. The three of us will then head out to a dog friendly patio and have brunch on a sunny day facing the water and enjoying Vancouver.
My perfect Sunday would be breakfast out with my husband, a walk along the sea wall, and then a lazy afternoon of catching up on reading. Maybe a light supper and then heading out to catch a movie on the big screen. Bliss!
My perfect Sunday would start with me sleeping in and then having a nice cup of coffee in bed while I slowly wake up. I would then pack a delicious gourmet lunch and meet my family at some park. We would take a walk together, laugh and enjoy the beautiful day together.
Dim sum in the morning, followed by a hike or a bike ride to work it all off. I think I’d do dinner in after shopping for fresh ingredients at Granville Island.
A perfect Sunday starts Saturday evening. Making sure the alarm clock is off, the blinds are shut, to avoid sunshine waking you, earplugs to make sure that traffic or loud neighbours don’t interrupt your state of bliss, and a shower to make sure that you have an immaculate sleep. On the day itself, I like to make sure everything is ready for the week so I’ll get my laundry done, but no other house work. No cooking or cleaning. I never cook on a Sunday. I ALWAYS go out for every meal. The rest is fillied in with whatever is appropriate for the day.
Late morning coffee with husband, kids overnight somewhere else, lazy lunch and walks in Stanley park.
Sleeping in, waking up to sunshine, being outside for a nice walk with the wind creating a light breeze (close to the ocean if possible), and enjoying the day.
I would sleep in, then go out for lunch and take a walk (if it’s sunny!). Then go back home and read a good book!
Wake up without the use of the alarm, this could be 7am, If I am energized then we are on a good start.
Make a nice green smoothie, packed with protein of course, and sit outside on a patio while taking in the sun rise.
This would be followed by a trip to a park, preferrably by the ocean where I can read a Paul Cohello book, and occasionally do a couple sets of pull ups at a nearby playground 🙂
Dim Sum is a must on my perfect Sunday
my perfect sunday would include sleeping in, then brunch/dimsum, shopping and coffee.
Waking up to sunshine streaming through my bedroom window and the sounds of birds chirping outside. My 2 children would come into our bed for morning snuggles before my husband & I go out on the deck , coffees in hand and talk about our hopes & dreams. Before too long we all would head out for our all time favorite brunch – Dim Sum. Later I would meet up with my BBF and we’d get pedicures and take a stroll through the mall before heading home to a lovely cooked meal prepared by my husband. The evening would include watching a rented movie & eating popcorn with my family. Then when the kids were in bed I’d end my perfect Sunday with a bubble bath, some Adele and a glass of red wine!
going out for social brunch, then going shopping or just walking around in a park or seaside, then going home, relaxing and watching movies or playing games, then preparing and eating dinner together
going out for social brunch, then going shopping or just strolling along the sea wall or in a park, then going home, relaxing and watching movies or playing games, then preparing and eating dinner together
Family bike ride, movie and dinner out
Sleeping in and having a family cuddle with cat, then eating brunch out, followed by a day in Stanley Park including a walk around the sea wall, and a BBQ dinner with family friends back at the house
Sleeping in and spending time with my loved ones.
My perfect Sunday involves a long lazy brunch, a walk in the park, a fabulous dinner and an evening show.
Perfect sunday would be to sleep in, read, get sports updates and enjoy a homemade breakfast. Go for a walk somewhere scenic and in the sun. Have some ice cream actually a lot of ice cream! Do something I haven’t done before, i.e. Dr Sun Yat Sen garden, etc and then enjoy a great meal out.
My perfect Sunday will happen when I die

Going for a hike on a sunny Sunday at Burnaby Mountain with my wife and my dog, followed by relaxing at home with dinner and a movie.
My perfect Sunday involves sleeping in, BRUNCH, a bookstore, coffee, and a play would be icing on the cake! Ooh! Cake would be great too!!
My perfect Sunday would start by sleeping in, then coffee & crosswords in bed with hubby followed by brunch and an afternoon stroll, preferably in Coal Harbour. Sunday nights are hubby’s nights to cook so I get to catch up on my blog reading, etc. while he makes dinner. Then we cuddle up and watch a movie to cap off the night.
If I could imagine an ideal scenario where money was no object: waking up on a Sunday morning in a Mediterranean country, eating breakfast on my hotel balcony overlooking the sea. Then, spending the rest of the morning swimming. However, these days I’d settle for sleeping in and a long bath.
My ideal Sunday would be to wake up to the sounds of birds chirping outside and then going to local restaurant for brunch with my family. Then perhaps go to the beach and spend the day there reading, swimming, or just enjoying the sun.
Perfect Sunday would be sleeping in until noon, go running, sleep some more and then heading to all you can eat sushi!
My perfect Sunday would be waking up leisurely and enjoying a nice breakfast, going to church, then taking my dog to the park and reading a book in the sunshine, perhaps a little nap, and ending with a nice dinner out and going to a movie or show with friends.
A perfect Sunday would start with a run in the morning, brunch at home, lounging in the afternoon and then a nice dinner out in the evening.
The best Sunday for me would be waking up early, yet feeling fully rested, and enjoying a nice brunch with friends on a patio. People watching over a leisurely meal is hard to beat! Then it would be a relaxing day out in nice weather before a fantastic dinner also with friends or family.
A Perfect Sunday is sleeping in, having brunch, doing some gardening, reading a book, go for a walk, and a nice dinner at sunset.
My perfect sunday would involve a leisurely bike ride around Yaletown and Stanley Park. A brunch at a sunny patio somewhere. 18 holes of golf with 3 pals. Watching the sunset over beers on yes, a second patio of the day!
My perfect Sunday involves sleeping in, doing crossword puzzles in bed with my wife, then off to dim sum. An afternoon on Granville Island would be next, where we’d pick up fresh ingredients to make dinner that night.
