Given that we arrived late at night, my own photos of The Gumboot Cafe in Roberts Creek, on the Sunshine Coast, were actually kind of crappy. So I decided against using those, even though I know that it’s preferable to use my own photos (though my friend Robyn Hanson allowed me to use hers!). The photo below is mine and I just wanted to use it to mention that we listened to Mimosa while having a drink at The Gumboot Garden Cafe. Such a relaxed little cafe in a destination that very few people seem to know exists!

It was a packed house at the Gumboot Cafe to listen to Mimosa, such a great group! More information on Mimosa from their website:

If Cleo Lane, Jobim and Serge Gainsbourg all got together one night and jammed, they might sound like what Mimosa has to offer: gorgeous melodies, quirky lyrics, incredible groove and sky-high improvisations. The Vancouver quartet draws on Jazz, Brazilian Sambas, French 60ies pop and Cabaret music to concoct its own unique sound.

With three critically acclaimed Cds and festival appearances all over Canada (including the Vancouver and Montreal Jazz Festivals), they have become CBC darlings, selected first as the subject of a one-hour long documentary and most recently as one of four Western bands featured on television, radio and the web, in the popular “Mai de la chanson d’ici”.

The band is usually a quartet, though for bigger festival shows, they often add a vibraphone/percussion player and a stand-up bass player.

The vibe at the Gumboot Cafe is pretty eclectic, though I’d say is more on the relaxed side of things. Most of what I saw of offerings in terms of food were organic and/or had a sustainable vibe to them. I look forward to coming back some other time!
