Gait to the Spirit
This is the second annual “Gait to the Spirit dance festival: Commemorating the ‘Year of India in Canada’ And Celebrating Classical Dance of India,” presented by Mandala Arts & Culture.
2 styles of dance will be represented at the festival: bharata natyam and odissi.
PRIYADARSINI GOVIND is a world-famous bharata natyam dancer. She will be performing with a 4-piece orchestra on stage with her from Chennai, as well as hosting 2 workshops on October 30 & 31 from 6 – 9 pm. Her authenticity and elegance are renound.
RAHUL ACHARYA is a traditional male temple dancer. He will be hosting a free lecture demonstrationon the intricacies of classical odissi dancing.
Mandala Arts and Culture is a Vancouver Based Company dedicated to producing, developing and presenting the classical dance forms of India, supporting the artistic vision of director Jai Govinda. This rich edition of the 2011 festival will be a landmark in the city’s many years of presentation of the Indian classical dance forms and an affirmation of the close relations of India and Canada. This festival is supported in partnership with both The Dance Centre and the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts as well with the generous support of The City of Vancouver, the BC Arts Council, Chum radio (through their Arts Fact program) and the National training program of Heritage Canada.
