Capella by the Vancouver Chamber Choir (giveaway)
There are few things more delightful than listening to a choir in a church space (no matter if you’re religious or not). Choir is a powerful and beautiful kind of music that too few people get to listen to.
And it gets even better when the choir in question — the Vancouver Chamber Choir–features up and coming choir composers from around the world as well as the Choir of College & University Singers.
Cappella is a kaleidoscope of the latest choral trends from all around the world, including five premieres by Teehan, Rudoi, Sixten, Cohen and Antognini. Sandström, Quinn, Chilcott and Tamulionis are important composers from Sweden, Wales, England and Lithuania. Ingari is a brilliant composer from Québec. David von Kampen and Jorge Córdoba are bright lights from south of the border(s). Choral music is a living art and this beautiful music should convince you of an auspicious future to come. Join John William Trotter for a pre-concert talk at 7:15pm about the evening’s music.

There will be five new pieces premiering during the October 21st ONLY concert, including one from Rob Teehan, a young Canadian composer. Are you intrigued yet?

Oooooh. I used to sing in a choir for a long long long time, so this is really hard.
One of my favourites was Panis Angelicus. A second (because I couldn’t pick) is Non Nobis Domine

I’ll go with “Dies Irae”, for historical reasons.
I have some great memories of choral chant. I’ve heard some amazing Russian Orthodox choral chants in Paris at St-Chappelle. In Toledo, I walked into a monastery (seriously) when the monks were doing Gregorian chanting.
Just realized I can’t go to an Oct. 21 concert, so please disregard my entry, but I enjoy talking about choral chant anyway!
The most amazing chanting I have ever heard was by David Hykes. He does a unique style of chant called “Harmonic Chanting.” He is able to manipulate the high harmonics amazing.
You can listen to him at http://www.youtube.com/user/DavidHykes
I have always liked the medieval choral chants – the setting for this performance is so fitting and Jon Washburn, the conductor, always delivers. What the new composers are doing will be very interesting.
I like listening to Gregorian chants, very relaxing.
I am more familiar with Church choral chants and my favorite is “The Greatest of These Is Love”. Yes, I am intrigue to learn about the concert and am glad that I wasn’t too late learning about this.
