BMO Marathon 2012 New Track Unveiled
Last week I (Jessica) had the pleasure of dropping by for the launch of the new track for Bank of Montreal’s Marathon representing Hummingbird604.com.
This is the marathon’s 41st year running – pun intended. 42.8Km brings the race from Queen Elizabeth Park out to UBC, past the beaches throughout Kitsilano and around Stanley Park, ending downtown. Up to 15,000 runners in total (half and full marathon combined) will storm the city for the event. Traffic will be rerouted and the city will prepare to take on a huge number of walkers, joggers, and fast-paced racers.
Everyone is welcome! Early bird registration is due on Dec 13th, and can be done online at the BMO marathon’s website. Families, communities and businesses are all encouraged.
Although health and personal fitness training are the main goals of this event, it is suggested that possible pledges can be taken for a charity or benefit by the runners, which is definitely in the spirits of this community-building event.
There is also a handful of charities that are partnered with the marathon, including the BC Cander Foundation.
Goal: To be the first choice for all levels of runners for their west coast marathon and running events while representing Vancouver’s urban lifestyle and natural beauty.
More information can be found at the BMO Website and a training schedule can be found at the Running Room. The race is set for Sunday, May 6th 2012, and more details will be announced closer to the date.
