Visions of Vancouver by Pi Theatre (giveaway)

Vancouver skyline from the Lions Gate Bridge

pi theatreThe theatre season is in full swing and we have yet another great play to suggest (and with a ticket giveaway!). As the title says, this one is all about Vancouver, for the celebration of Vancouver’s 125th anniversary: five local playwrights present their own vision of the city in short pieces in the tradition of Paris, Je t’aime and New York, I love You. Presented by Pi Theatre, a description of Visions of Vancouver:

The four works include -
In Adrienne Wong’s Elevate we meet Sal, a young woman who has just moved into a bustling downtown condo-tower to find she feels more alone than ever.  It’s a story of how we can experience isolation and disconnection while surrounded by two-million people.

The Bridge by Michele Riml and Michael St. John Smith, is the story of four people whose lives intersect on the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge. Ellen and Brad are on their way to a dinner party but are held up on the bridge by a police incident as RCMP officer Virginia McLeod tries to persuade Frank Hobbs, one of the original construction workers who built the bridge, not to jump off of it.

The Dead Line is Dennis Foon’s light look at death. Cory is a jerk. Almost nobody likes him, not his ex-wife, his mother, his father or his sister. Only his old dog Gandhi offers affection from beyond the grave. When Cory runs up an enormous bill using the Dead Line communication service, in the hope of learning how to make the most of the life hereafter, he finds out he has to be true to himself – even if that means continuing in his highly suspect ways.

The Thin Veneer is Governor General Award winning playwright Kevin Loring’s artistic response to the 2011 Stanley Cup riots. This profound play investigates the nature of who we are as Vancouverites and suggests what’s beneath the thin veneer.

What’s better than local theatre about the city? We’re really excited to have a pair of tickets to the October 6th premiere of Visions of Vancouver to giveaway so you can share your love of this beautiful city with other playgoers.
