Launch of Culture Days at CBC Live (September 30th, 2011)
When I say that I’m incredibly busy and that I don’t actually have time for much, I doubt people really realize how busy I am, and I’m pretty sure many of them think to themselves (without telling me) that I’m a snob and that I make myself self-important.
The truth, if you look at my Google Calendar, is that I’m ALWAYS BUSY, and that I’m not really a snob. Being a full-time academic, a full-time consultant and a full-time social media “personality” takes MOST of my time (I do try hard to make time for my friends) and I lead 3 full lives.
So, when I agreed to participate in the launch of Culture Days at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) headquarters in downtown Vancouver this past Friday, I knew my participation would amount to, at the very most, 30 minutes. And short as my visit was, I made it totally count. After all, on this blog, I have always written about Canadian content on broadcast television.
Get ready for a star-studded line up of live broadcast, events and music at CBC LIVE! – A kick off to Culture Days on Friday, September 30th, 2011. This will be an all day outdoor festival from 10 am to 10 pm with a spectacular opening by CCMA Artist of the Year – Johnny Reid.
The stage will start with a Special Q Media Panel hosted by Jian Ghomeshi, Steven & Chris and Dragons’ Den. Bring the kids for interactive activities and story time at Kids’ CBC Tent with Mamma Yamma and Super Why!. Throughout the day, meet the Stars of CBC Television. Did we mention George Stroumboulopoulos will be here? Catch the live broadcast of CBC Radio One’s On The Coast and CBC News Vancouver.
What’s a celebration without cake? Enjoy a piece of cake in the evening with the CBC Stars. Join the countdown in the evening with CBC Radio 3 for the Culture Days Concert featuring Stars, The Midway State, and The New Pornographers.
I had a chance to take a photo with Erin Karpluk from the Canadian TV show Being Erica, which I absolutely love. And Erin was so nice and down-to-earth.
Also, I hope people forgive me for NOT being as star-struck as many other people are, particularly when it comes to Canadian actors. Remember, I’m a relatively new immigrant and many cultural references are extremely foreign to me. But I loved meeting actors and TV personalities that I’ve seen before.
Of course, I couldn’t help but take a photo of myself with Adam Beach of the show Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (who is hunky and sweet) and with Patty Sullivan, host of Kids CBC.
And of course, I couldn’t stop mentioning Natalie Lisinska, from the wonderful show InSecurity, one of my absolute favorite shows. She is also incredibly down to earth (and we couldn’t stop chatting about our friend Richard Yearwood, whom I absolutely love and adore, and who also plays a role in InSecurity).
I’m so glad that CBC Live was such a great success because I felt incredibly blessed for having being invited to participate in the exclusive media preview.
