Audra McDonald at The Orpheum Theatre presented by Vancouver Recital Society (win tickets)
If you watch TV, and you were a fan of Grey’s Anatomy (the medical drama/soap opera) you probably also watch the spinoff, Private Practice. Audra McDonald plays ob-gyn specialist Dr. Naomi Bennett.
A four time Emmy winner, Audra MCdonald is performing at The Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver presented by the Vancouver Recital Society (whom, if you remember, gave me tickets to Yo-Yo Ma to give away to my readers a few months ago). This time, I have two pairs of tickets exclusively to give away on Hummingbird604.com for Audra McDonald’s debut with the Vancouver Recital Society.
To purchase tickets to Audra McDonald’s upcoming intimate evening with the Vancouver Recital Society at The Orpheum Theatre on October 11th at 8pm you can do so online (click here). This promises to be one amazing evening.
She may be a Juilliard-trained four-time Tony Award–winning singer and actress who has released three solo albums and performed with every major orchestra in the US, but Audra McDonald is not one to rest on her laurels. “I guess I’m one of those people who jumps in and then thinks about it,” she says about changing things up a bit for her fourth solo album for Nonesuch Records, Build a Bridge, on which she performs works by contemporary singer/songwriters. “I don’t worry about what other people will think. I just choose material that moves me. My hope with this album is that people who are familiar with the artists will enjoy a different take on them, that’s all.”
More about the Vancouver Recital Society:
As one of the few recital series in North America dedicated to presenting internationally acclaimed artists, both emerging and established, the Vancouver Recital Society (VRS) has built a reputation around the world for innovation and excellence in programming, garnering prestigious awards in New York and Toronto.
To enter my giveaway, check the Vancouver Recital Society website’s lineup of amazing concerts, and come back to this post and tell me in the comments section which concert you would like to check out. Personally, I’m keen on checking the Beethoven project. I will draw 2 random winners from all entrants on October 9th at 2pm (you can gain up to 2 entries to the contest, with one being a comment on this post and a second one posting the following on your Twitter stream):
Shared with @hummingbird604 which @vanrecital concert I want to check out. Which one would you want to see? http://is.gd/Vojtq4

I would love to see the Tine Thing Helseth, trumpet performance! I love up and coming new performers.
I would like to check out Maxim Rysanov piano performance.
The concert I would love to see *is* Audra McDonald. I believe I have a recording of her singing in the musical “Ragtime.” Amazing voice and would love to see her live! Second pick would be the Jerusalem String Quartet ~ heard an interview with them on CBC recently.
George Li sounds good… who doesn’t wanna see a pint-sized prodigy go at it?
I saw the Canadian Tenors on the most recent Emmy awards. All I have to say is WOW! I definitely would see them in concert. I like discovering new artists so I would love to see Audra as I dont know much about her and take my mom out for an evening of music!
I can’t enter this giveaway, as I’ll be away, but I noticed there’s a Groupon today for this concert, should anyone want to go.
Tine Thing Helseth, trumpet!
i went and looked and I want to see Audra McDonald! What a beatiful voice.
Audra – she sounds amazing!
Tine Thing Helseth – haven’t heard a classical trumpet recital since the eighties.
UPDATE – And the winner is – Anne – congratulations! I’ve sent you an email – let me know if you can use the tickets!
If this contest is still open until October 9 at 2pm (which is my birthday and I was even born in the afternoon!) I’d be interested in seeing the Andrea Brantelid and Shai Wosner cello and piano concert next year at the Kay Meek Center. But Audra MacDonald has the voice of a angel and the pipes of a steam engine – she’s not to be missed. Cheers for the great website.
