Breathe Now (Victoria, BC – September 30th to Oct 1st)

Full disclosure: All four organizers of Breathe Now 2011 are very good friends of mine. Another very close friend of mine (Airdrie Miller) has been invited to speak. And I love Bif Naked, who will be a keynote speaker. Now that we’ve got that one out of the way…

I’m all about female empowerment. Both of my interns are women. Several of my closest collaborators (research, particularly but also in my consulting) are women, and I have always made it part of my job to encourage my female students to shoot for the stars. I devote a substantial part of my teaching time to advise, educate and empower young women, at all points. And as you may know, one of my biggest role models is a fantastic woman: my Mom.

So, when I got wind that my friends Angela, Janni, Janice and Yukari were organizing Breathe Now (September 30th through October 1st, 2011), I figured I had to blog about it. So you may wonder what is Breathe Now, and why now?

Breathe Now hopes to achieve 2 things through bringing women together: to educate, enlighten and inspire Canadian women through lifelong education, friendship and partnership in a warm and inviting atmosphere and to empower women to take care of themselves as a foundation for personal and professional success.
