Center of Gravity 2011 Beach Festival (Kelowna)

It’s almost beach season, I can *almost* feel it. I’ve been walking around the city with my Mom in flip-flops and male capris (“manpris”). Moreover, as you may have known, I played highly-competitive indoor volleyball as a teen, and thus I’m in love with anything that has the words “volleyball” in it.

So, when I was told to check out Center of Gravity 2011 Beach Festival in Kelowna (which obviously includes beach volleyball), I was thrilled. Even more thrilled: I have giveaways!

Center of Gravity 2011 is this summer’s hottest beach festival bringing together top headliners in music and sports on the sandy beaches of Kelowna’s City Park July 29-31, 2011. Alongside DJ shows and bikini contests, Center of Gravity is also presenting over 150 pro athletes competing in five sports: pro beach volleyball, freestyle mountain biking, FMX, wakeboarding, and basketball. With expected attendance of over 20,000 fans the beach festival is providing unprecedented exposure to the athletes and their sports.

This year is Center of Gravity’s most exciting line-up yet with over 16 chart-topping music acts. The three-day concert series will see Grammy-nominated, hip-hop icon, Busta Rhymes kick off the festival and get the crowds pumped with some of his monster hits. He’ll share the spotlight with A-Trak, who is the first DJ to win five World Championships, and is half of the duo behind the collaboration, Duck Sauce and their hit “Barbra Streisand”.

The second night of the festival will blow away festival-goers with gold album and UK-hit master, Calvin Harris. The final night of the festival will see Juno-nominated, electro-pop group, Dragonette, taking a break from recording their third studio album to drop synth-beats and their trademark quirky lyrics. Notorious as the only successful Arab/Jew partnership since the dawn of human culture, and hot off their UK Tour, Chromeo will close the main stage.

The sports action starts in the Dirt Zone with an intense mix of adrenaline and technique-featuring FMX and freestyle mountain bike shows hosted by mountain biking icon Steve Romaniuk. Our Water Zone features a lake jump for the freestyle mountain bike boys and wakeboard winch jam along the Okanagan Lake. Dustin O’Ferrall, Matt Bibby and the other pro wakeboarders will rip the rails from the lake onto Hot Sands Beach showing off some big grinds, tricks, and flips.

Back on land, Hot Sands Beach is home to Bud Light Lime Pro Beach Volleyball tournaments where local volleyball star Tammy Thomas & partner Carol Hamilton will be part of the action fresh off their 2nd place win at Santa Monica CBVA 2011. High-octane action continues in the Hoop Zone, home of the 4 on 4, full court competition that attracts Canada’s best players including Henry Bekkring, one of the best dunkers Canada has seen; and defending champ Scott Morrison. Newly added is the Urban Zone, where street culture will be showcased with skateboard, BMX, and b-boy demos all staged to urban and hip hop style DJs.

This over 20,000 person festival is now SOLD OUT. So one of the only ways you will to see Chromeo, and crew is by entering MY contest. Kids 12 and under are free. View complete line-up times, accommodations and to purchase tickets, visit the Center of Gravity websites.

White Pine Beach in Belcarra – a beautiful serene setting.

Hi, Raul!
Let me first thank you hosting this ticket giveaway. Me and my brother have been making the trek from vancouver to kelowna every summer since we were 16 and 14, What can i say we love the beach. Without a doubt, Gyro beach in Kelowna is our favorite. Every summer we venture here with 20 of our closest friends (whom almost all have COG tickets). My brother worked very hard in his minor and junior hockey career and was fortunate enough to earn a full ride scholarship to the university of Northern Michigan. As proud as i am of him, I’m going to miss him more than anything. With both of us on a students budget, we can’t afford to see each other for the next couple years. This summer is going to be my last with my best friend. It would absolutely mean the world to us to get tickets for Center of Gravity. Thanks again Raul for opening this giveaway and I really hope you choose us (fingers crossed)
Cheers, Kurt

The best beach in BC has to be Gyro beach in Kelowna. The beach has people that come from Calgary and Edmonton, all the way to Victoria and Vancouver Island. Not only is the abundant number of people from all over spectacular, the weather seems to always be perfect. With the glowing hot heat of Kelowna’s summer, mixed in with the sandy white beaches that Gyro has to offer, there’s nothing more beautiful on a hot summer day than Gyro and the people it has to offer.

Has to be Gyro beach, with its immaculate white sand beach, crystal blue water, and the glorious abundance of people that come from Edmonton to Victoria. Whether it be watching the sun set before a summer night out on the town, or its watching the sunrise to begin an amazing summer day, Gyro beach is truly one of a kind I remember sitting and watching at Gyro beach, the fires torch through the forest just across the way, only last year. Although truly sad and devastating, what a site to see, and couldn’t have been a more warm and welcoming town to have to deal with it. Thanks for this great opportunity to show us why BC is truly the greatest place on earth.

Kits Beach

Brianna PatjasJuly 13th, 2011 at 12:23 pm

Kits Beach is an urban beach, which has less personal space and lesser water and sand quality, but much better people-watching and a more lively scene, which is definitely more my speed and may be yours too!

MelissaJuly 13th, 2011 at 12:25 pm

Gyro Beach but anywhere in BC has nice, clean beaches with beautiful view..we’re lucky to live in a great province!

Dana DJuly 13th, 2011 at 4:31 pm

My favority beach in the b-e-a-u-tiful british columbia you ask? Although there are many strong contenders I would have to go with Tribune Bay on Horby Island. Let me tell you, it is nothing short of breath taking. The white sands and crystal blue like water make me feel like I took a trip to the Maya Riviera! In the summer, Tribune Bay is known for having the warmest salt water in BC! From Vancouver, you have to take about two ferries to get there, but this is a destination well worth the trip. A great place for hiking, fishing, leisurely walks and picnicking. I loved going there as a child and to this day it is favorite place of mine.

Here is a link for anyone interested —> http://www.vancouverisland.com/parks/?id=536 (with pictures)

It sounds to good to be true doesn’t it!!?? Haha :) Goes to show what a great province we live in, and I’m so proud and grateful. Although I hope to be spending my BC day long weekend at the Centre of Gravity Festival!! Cheers! :)

My favorite beach in BC? That’s tough… it’s gotta be the beach at Ellison Provincial Park, just out of Vernon. Fun cliffs to jump off into the Okanagan, and a nice sheltered bay to chill out in.
