Love Vancouver, Love Your Planet Festival (June 5th, 2011)

Yaletown, Vancouver

I love Vancouver, and as an educator who teaches environmental politics and someone who works hard at sustainable living, I’m pleased to see that on World Environment Day (today, June 5th), there’s also a festival on sustainable living: Love Vancouver, Love Your Planet.

Love Vancouver, Love Your Planet is a new festival for sustainable living. Focusing on fun, inspiration, and information, we are inviting Vancouverites to celebrate our city’s successes and share their ideas for a sustainable future. This is the first year for our free, family event

The organizers ask you to gather the family, pack your water bottle and a re-useable bag, and make your way to the Olympic Village seawall in False Creek this Sunday, June 5. Love Vancouver, Love Your Planet, a festival of green art,
music and lifestyle is offering up a good time with a greater purpose.

ECO FAIR and FOOD
Over 45+ local and green businesses, artisans and NGO’s are participating in our open-air eco-market on the seawall. Vegetarian and Vegan local food stalls will be serving up tasty delights on compostable plates, cups, straws and cutlery to
help reduce waste.

You won’t find plastic bags or water bottles on-site, but the water station will be serving fresh from the source Vancouver tap water. A free and secure bike valet service will be provided at the festival, or for those who don’t roll that way, it’s easy to get there by foot, Skytrain or bus (take the 50 False Creek or Granville Island, or the Skytrain Main Street Science World, or the Canada Line Olympic Village).

The event will be powered by 100% green electricity provided by Bullfrog Power, and all waste will be handled on site – sorted and weighed with help from Recycling Alternative. If I were in Vancouver, I totally would attend, but I’m in Victoria, so best wishes, and I hope you can take advantage of this free event!
