Industrial and urban transformation, land use changes and storytelling
I pride myself in my abilities as a storyteller, and I have always believed that being a good writer and researcher means telling a good story. The other day, my good friend Erica Hargreave (Ahimsa Media) who works as an interactive storyteller, and I were walking down Mount Pleasant. I stopped, took a photo and asked her “what’s the story behind this photography”. That’s all I said.
Erica replied “that photo tells the story of how this geographical area has transformed from being highly industrialized to now having a mixture of industrial and residential and how these two co-exist”. And that’s exactly the story I would portray with this photo.
I’m always fascinated with land use changes, with the co-existence of industrial and urban spaces. I wrote a doctoral dissertation on the topic, as a matter of fact. So taking photos of industrial/urban ecosystems has become somewhat of a hobby for me. As Jens mentioned, this photo tells the story of a change in land use.
