Celebrate Valentine’s Day at home with @MinkChocolates and @hummingbird604

photo credit: k is for kristina

Who doesn’t love chocolate? Certainly, I do. And I could almost bet that my readers do too. It’s become a bit of a tradition for my good friend Chet Woodside and I to have chocolate beverages at one of our absolute favorite places: Mink Chocolates Inc. Mink is a short walk from The Network Hub.

Being so close to my office means that Mink is always a very strategic location to meet friends for a quick chocolate break. I certainly have no qualms about recommending their chocolates (and in fact, they have a Valentine’s Day promotion). And they are partnering with me to sweeten YOUR Valentine’s Day celebration at home.

Mink Chocolate's Cafe

I am giving away (in partnership with Mink) a price package consisting of one boxed set of personal fondue pots and a jar of fresh milk or dark chocolate ganache, retail value $47.00, so that you can prepare a home-made chocolate fondue date with your loved one (or heck, with yourself, why not?)

I love how connected Mink is: They have an e-commerce website, Twitter
Tweet: www.twitter.com/minkchocolates, Facebook, blog, YouTube and obviously their site location, 863 Hastings Street West, Vancouver, BC V6C 3N9.

To enter my random draw, simply drop a comment on this post indicating what is the sweetest thing a partner, boyfriend, girlfriend or even a friend has ever done for you?. In my case, I can tell you many, but one of the sweetest things that always warms my heart is when my offline friends invite me to do stuff “just so that Raul can blog about it“. Knowing how integral blogging has become to my life and making sure that I succeed in the field is an example of some of the awesome things my friends and loved ones have done for me.

This is your chance to tell me your stories of sweetness, and win a great prize package. I will draw a random winner on Friday February 11th at 2:00pm. You can earn an additional entry by posting on your Twitter stream:

For Valentine’s, @hummingbird604 & @minkchocolates will give away a chocolate fondue set. I entered 2 win, u could too: http://is.gd/ZHMSlt

A third entry can be earned by posting a short note on Hummingbird604′s Facebook Page Wall indicating what is your favorite chocolate (milk, dark, white, or any combinations thereof). If you do all three (comment, tweet and Facebook wall post), I’ll count 3 entries in total. I’ll deal with this once I deal with Facebook Promotions and set up my contests there, heh.

Good luck everyone and happy Valentine’s Day!

The most incredible thing my wife has ever done is give birth to our son. Because honestly I have no idea how woman can go through pregnancy and child-birth, and be okay with it.

He married me :-) And then he put his family before everything. (And I know you know how hard he works!)

I was volunteering for an all day Music Fest and had been on my feet in heels all day and they HURT! My fiance showed up at the end of the event with a foot massage kit and gave me the most amazing, pampering foot massage ever. My sore feet felt so great after I could have danced the night away.

Chris (@lyteforce)January 31st, 2011 at 12:39 pm

I think it’s sad that I have yet to try out Mink considering that I walk by nearly every day (for the past 6 years). Shameful.

My experience is quite similar to Ruby’s – after refereeing soccer for a full day in the cold rain, I arrived home to an unexpected hot epson salt bath, homemade hot chocolate, and a full foot massage afterwards. I kid you not, knew I had to marry the girl after that.

Before my bf (who now is my hubby of 16 yrs) got a car he would walk a good 45 minutes every weekend to come see me. Rain, snow or sun. Isn’t that sweet? ♥

the sweetest thing that my friends (i.e. my co workers) do is to stay behind with me in the office when i’m not caught up with my work.

He is the love of my life…everyday is sweeter for having him in it…and I mean that, not just being glib. I don’t know what my life would be without him, and I never want to find out!

The sweetest thing was a surprise bday party thrown for me!

AgaselJanuary 31st, 2011 at 5:38 pm

My BF does sweet things for me all the time – it’s like Valentine’s Day several times over!

One sweet thing he does is sometimes, he’ll have a healthy dinner ready for me after I’ve hit the gym. Even if it’s a simple ramen and baked salmon dinner, it’s always soooooo good!

Teresa KJanuary 31st, 2011 at 7:08 pm

My sweetie made me a surprise dinner this evening.

My gf drove all the way over from surrey ( I live in Kerrisdale) to my place early in the morning to give me a bed in breakfast for my birthday :)

Last valentines day my boyfriend made me a homemade dinner for the first time!! It was so sweet how he decorated the dining room and made me a card that outlined the 10 things why he loved me =).

JeremyJanuary 31st, 2011 at 11:16 pm

My fiance is always doing something sweet for me, always taking care of our family! Over the weekend she surprised me by making an amazing breakfast with home made banana bread, Greek yogurt, and coffee with Irish Cream….always appreciated :)

Valentine’s day a few years ago, my man surprised me by spreading rose petals all over our house and made me dinner, it was memorable and very sweet for sure!

Knowing that I am in a record-breaking date drought I good friend called me and invited me out on a date — movie, dinner, wine, good conversation. I guess that would be an evening with a friend but at least I could say to my office chums on Monday that I went on a date on the weekend!

Sweetest thing… friends pooled their $ last Christmas to get me this truly gorgeous necklace.

Sweetest thing my sweetie did for me was put up with me for all these years. Not very original but very sweet.

Aside from the ‘big gestures’, I think the sweetest thing my boyfriend does is make pancakes on Sunday mornings, just because they make me smile.

ArieannaFebruary 3rd, 2011 at 11:50 am

I think the sweetest things are those done each day to make someone happy. Ianiv often gets ready before I do because he works outside the home. He will hand grind our coffee and make it for me, perfectly to my taste, and leave it waiting in my travel mug. :)

There are so many big and small, but the most recent was for my birthday in early January when he planned a full day for me.
Since he couldn’t be with me, he arranged a series of clues that led me from one present, experience or adventure to the next. He even involved my friends and colleagues so I wouldn’t spend the day completely alone on my adventure.
The final clue lead me to him and we were able to have a lovely dinner together.

My wife commissioned a piece of art – a cedar panel by Larry Rosso (http://www.lattimergallery.com/artistbio.php?a=117 )while I was working on my PhD thesis. She secretly paid for it for months and months. The day after my defense, she said, “Hey, let’s go to Douglas Reynolds Gallery,” which we did regularly. Hanging on the wall was my wall panel with pricetag card “Congratulations, Peter”. Galley staff was all watching, clapped. Wow. Now she may start her PhD – how do I top that?!

My wife surprised me with a trip on my 40th birthday, she went as far as booking the time off with my boss, having the bags packed and the travellers cheque’s purchased!

The sweetest thing would have to be when I got a car as a present for my birthday when I turned 17!

BonsFebruary 4th, 2011 at 4:27 am

The sweetest thing for me is when my friends remember my birthday (even friends that I haven’t seen for a long time).

DilaraFebruary 4th, 2011 at 10:43 am

I am lucky to have married the love of my life – every single day with him is a sweet gift. Big gestures aside, one of the sweetest things he does for me is what we call ‘nose check’. Whenever my nose is cold, it’s a pretty good indicator that I’m cold. My hubby will check to see if my nose is cold and then put a fleece blanket on me and tuck it in all around me so make sure I’m warm and snug.

Jessica Roberts-FarinaFebruary 4th, 2011 at 8:43 pm

The sweetest thing that anyone has ever done for me was done by one of my few close friends, Rebecca. We lived on the same floor in a small dorm at UBC in my first year and of course our dorm did Secret Valentines. I was hers and she spoiled me silly. But what I remember most isn’t the gifts that she got me, but a letter she wrote telling me how special I was and to never forget that.
Since then, she has done many other sweet, generous, and just plain selfless things for me. She is a very special human being and one of the sweetest things that has ever come into my life.

My wife is so sweet, I try to keep her away from my diabetic parents. Seriously, it’s difficult to choose THE sweetest thing she’s ever done for me. However, if I had to pick it would be the wedding gift she gave me – she took a picture of the cross tatoo that’s on my back while I was napping and she had it made into pendant. She’s the best.

My husband had supper ready for me when I came home from a long day of work – and not just any dinner, but a home-made lasagna! Delicious! And then he did the dishes after so I could just relax.

My husband Manuel does many sweet things, but most of all I appreciate how he left his home country of Mexico and immigrated to Canada to be with me forever!
