On jumping on the social media bandwagon: Why did YOU join Quora?
Anybody who knows me well knows that I’m always skeptical of anything that looks or smell like a fad (did anyone say Google Buzz? or Formspring?). Given my social media activities, I’m always exploring new platforms, knowledge sources, etc. But I’m not a bandwagon-jumper. Thus, despite the recent hype on Quora, I haven’t joined. I’m very wary of following an overwhelming stream of content, and thus, I’m pondering whether to join Quora.
So, those of you who DID join Quora – why did you do it? What are the advantages you see in it?

I jumped on Quora because I was having trouble finding answers to some questions I had about UX. There seemed to be a lot of knowledgeable and experienced UX people on there, so it was a logical choice to join up and start getting/sharing answers.
Never heard of it until now and I don’t understand the idea behind that. There’s such thing called the internet and internet forums. But I suppose sometimes you can’t find stuff there.
I joined but was quickly disappointed by how the answers to the questions were being used to promote the business of the person answering. In some cases not answering the question asked, just promoting their business as a better alternative. I saw this a few times by Drupal people when the question was about how something on WordPress worked. Makes it seem pointless in asking the question on Quora – better to just go to WP forum.
Thanks everyone – I am not convinced with Quora yet, to be quite honest. I might just have to join for that reason!
Seems like a rip-off of Stack Overflow…
If you’re interested in questions/answers, Stack Exchange is much better.
