Café Vergnano 1882 (Kitsilano, Broadway and Macdonald)
It’s rare that I trek down to Kitsilano these days (even though I teach at UBC, I mostly commute directly from either home or my office, and back). So when my good friend Erica Hargreave told me whether I’d like to join her to check out something in the neighbourhood after a lovely walk, I said “but, of course!” We found ourselves around 3:45pm not having had a proper lunch and we thought “we might need a snack or something before we head down to our respective social engagements” so we ended up stopping at Café Vergnano 1882 (on West Broadway and a couple of blocks east of Macdonald). We were impressed by the cute decor.
We also found that Café Vergnano 1882 had a very relaxing atmosphere. A bit too relaxing, perhaps.
We were greeted by a friendly attendant who mentioned we could share a sandwich and each have a bowl of soup, which we did and it was rather inexpensive ($18 for the combo). We ordered a turkey with pesto sandwich and a curry ginger and carrot butternut squash soup. Delicious, to be quite honest. I’ll definitely come here more often for lunch. Apparently it’s a great place for coffee too!
Disclosure: Both Erica and I paid for our lunch out of our own pocket.
