Adding a data plan to a smartphone: A pretty smart idea
You probably are thinking “no, really? you never had a data plan with your iPhone?“. Well, up until the middle of December, I hadn’t. I didn’t want to be connected ALL THE TIME. And then I realized that I felt insane amounts of frustration when I wanted to tweet something about a theatre, dance performance or at a restaurant and I couldn’t. I didn’t want to be attached to a 3 year contract. But the one I have doesn’t have these strings attached. And I can’t even begin to tell you how many times that iPhone with data has saved me. In Victoria, Courtenay, Parksville, everywhere I used it to find addresses when I was walking around. And restaurants. I just can’t believe I didn’t have a data plan for so long. My productivity has increased exponentially!

I had the 6Gb data plan with Rogers, that was $30/month. Though when I looked over my history of usage, I would really only use at most a few hundred megabits.
Since becoming a student I dropped from the 6Gb to a 500Mb plan and I still don’t really come close to hitting my data limit. As long as I use WiFi at school, I’m golden. I really only check email (pushed every 15mins i think) and the occasional website on my phone.
The 6Gb did come in handy when I tethered my iPhone to my laptop when I couldn’t get a reliable WiFi signal though to upload photos etc.
Once you go smart, you can’t go back đŸ˜‰
I’m still using a “dumb” phone from circa 2004 lol.
Definitely a good idea to have data plan on smart phones, it comes very handy when you need to check stuff while you’re on the road and don’t have a wifi connection available.
One of the great aspects of the data plan is the tethering function, which I used recently while visiting on the west coast of Vancouver Island. No wifi? No problem.
Glad to hear that you’re enjoying your data package.
I couldn’t begin to imagine what I’d be without my data plan – in fact, I nearly felt lost when I was in Maui (I said nearly) without the BB.
