Win a Samsung Netbook N145 from @hummingbird604 and @BBYCanada #hb604xmas
If you’ve read my blog long enough, you’ll know that I am a fan and lover of my laptop. Yet, with its 17 inch monitor, and the additional numeric keyboard on the right hand side, my Acer laptop is just TOO big for me to schlep around and I know that most people have turned on to netbooks. I’m glad to inform you that Best Buy Canada has partnered with me again (you may remember my external hard drive giveaway earlier at the beginning of the school year).
And this holiday season, as Best Buy Canada published their Holiday Gift Guide 2010, they offered me a Samsung netbook (value $299 before taxes) to give away to one of my lucky readers.
Inside its high-end, stylish design the N145 is loaded with:
- Intel Atom processor and 1GB system memory
- 160GB hard drive
- Wireless LAN 802.11b/g/n
- Pre-installed Windows 7 Starter
- VGA, USB and memory card connectivity options
Turn it on and the N145′s 10.1″ LED-backlit display will bring your digital world to life. At just 1.2kg, it’s the ideal secondary PC that lets you store up to 160GB of important files, toss it in your bag, and access the Internet and perform basic tasks just about anywhere. Built-in Wi-Fi gives you the power to connect to your online universe at any place a wireless network exists. Plus, the webcam and microphone help you stay connected to friends, family and colleagues.
I was thinking of what to ask for the comment on this post, as when I gave away the external hard drive I asked for your stories of horrible storage data losses. This time, I think it’d be good to read your stories on what use would you give your netbook. Tell me a story of where or how would you use it (maybe write a final paper at the library, or write your novel seaside in Tofino, you name it). You tell me your story of why you should win this netbook and where would you put it to good use.
I’ll draw (as I usually do) a random winner from all entries. Your first entry will be a comment, and you can earn a second one by tweeting the following (I will count the second entry only after you have posted a comment, which is your first entry).
Entered to win a Samsung Netbook from @hummingbird604 and @bbycanada – read how I will use it if I win! http://is.gd/ijkEH #hb604xmas
I love reading all these stories and can’t wait to hear how you will use your netbook. If I were given one (which I am not, as it’s only for the contest), I would totally take it with me on a writing retreat in Whistler or Qualicum Beach or the Thompson-Okanagan region. You have until December 20th at 5pm to enter my giveaway. Good luck!
The netbook I’m giving away to my readers is sponsored by Best Buy Canada and has a retail value of $299.99. I do not receive any monetary compensation, nor do I receive a free item either. I just thought it would be great for my readers to learn more about what Best Buy is offering for the holiday season through their Holiday Gift Guide 2010. Should you have any questions about this contest, feel free to contact me via e-mail through my contact form.

For my part, the main purpose that a netbook would serve would be when I go to conferences, trade shows, and so on. I need to have a portable computer with me, but it can be a pain lugging around a full-size laptop when I hit up the press room. If I had this netbook, I’d carry it around with me during the day, leaving my “real” laptop back at the hotel room for when I need some heavier lifting. In fact, this is exactly what I did at CES last year. I don’t have my old Acer netbook anymore, so maybe it’s time for a suitable replacement.

if I have a netbook i would carry it to school and use it to take notes!!
my current laptop is just too big and too heavy for me to carry around.
I’ve never owned a laptop or netbook so it would give me so much freedom from my PC. I would be sweet to be able to access the internet from anywhere in the house and on the road I wouldn’t have to hunt for a community PC!

I enjoy compartmentalizing. I would use it exclusively for photo editing, design, editing, and blog work.
I often find myself wanting to discover all the awesome coffee shops all over vancouver but one can only read a book for so long that a new handy netbook will fit nicely in my purse and allow me to discover all these awesome coffee shops while being productive with work!
Season’s Greetings!
I don’t have my own laptop and my brother generously lent me his to use. If I win, I will continue to tweet, blog and write articles that will hopefully inspire and inform people. Thank you, Raul!
I’m looking for a backpacking companion- this looks awesome! *drools lol thanks anyway, maybe i’ll consider becoming a tweeting twit after all
If I were to win the notebook it would be handy to have access the internet from basically where ever you happen to be.I could actually loose the trail of pieces of paper, my form of note taking.I could actually use that time I have on the Skytrain ,daily commuting from King George to Waterfront,to better use than solitaire on my ipod!
I have been wanting to get a netbook for a while now. My laptop became obsolete a while ago, and was too clunky for travel anyway. So this netbook would be perfect for traveling purposes, or just for simply being on-the-go. Great size and sleek design! Built in wi-fi is awesome!
I’ve been wanting to get a new netbook from my dad. He’s in desperate need of a new computer as his desktop is 8 years old, and the laptop he bought last year at a garage sale, is probably as old. He wants to be able to do certain things like surf the net wirelessly and post and extract photos. This would be a great Christmas gift for him. Granted I’m not sure about Windows 7 for him, but I’m sure we can work something out there.
What an awesome contest to have!
As I have my own netbook and I’m looking at getting something more powerful at some point in the future, I’d actually look to give this to my fiancee. Being the reasonable one in our relationship, she won’t let me buy her one to have on her own, yet she’s constantly left out on trips as I’m not only a bad partner, but a complete computer hog.
It will be great for traveling. I only have a desktop computer. With a netbook, it will be give me more freedom to surf the net while I’m away from Vancouver.
I’d use it for notes in class, or when I go out to study or travel. My current laptop is huge and weighs a ton, so it’d be nice to have something a little bit more portable.
OMG .. this would be such a life saver! As a single mom, I spend a LOT of time in waiting. Waiting around at my daughter’s dance studio, at swimming lessons, at musical theatre and, although my iPhone is lovely, it’s not a netbook!! I am a do-er! A multitasker and when my hands are idol, I go a bit crazy.
Plus, when my daughter is a little older, this will allow one of us to be on the home computer while the other is on the netbook.
Good luck to everyone!
Cheers!
I desperately need to replace my trusty netbook that kicked it a few weeks ago along with all of my writing and data… So if I won this netbook, I would be using it to rewrite what I lost and to write more freelance pieces. I loved my little netbook for easy it was to take on trips and to conferences.
I would use it for school.
A great way to write notes during lectures, work on assignments etc.
The great thing about netbooks is that their battery life is pretty good. I wouldn’t have to hunt for an outlet or something as often if I used a bigger laptop.
No need to use the computers at school, I could hit it various locations on campus to work without being tired to a desk which I might not be able to get to due to busy times!

My laptop’s dead. Sign me up. It’d be wonderful to have the freedom to write in coffeeshops. I’m feeling claustrophobic, and wish I could get the hell out into the world! Maybe even, gasp, the Network Hub.
Yeah, I’d just use it every damn place I could. It’d be lovely to go down Oregon, too, and have a writing week or two.
I’d use it as a testing machine for sites I build for my clients. As people move to ever smaller screens us web designers have to come up with clever ways of fitting content in without making people with larger screens feel myopic.
Oh, and I’d also use it to create world peace and spread the joy of Jul all around.

I would set up this computer for my sons. There is a lot of kid friendly software and both boys love the computer. Aidan is getting to the point where being able to look up things he is interested in beside me is a great thing. Yesterday he wanted to know all about St Nicholas and his saint day.

My old laptop was damaged recently by an airline who refuse to accept responsibility. Just priced new ones and eeek! no budget now, but did look at the small netbooks and think I can still manage to work away from my office with one of those. It would be great to be “mobile” again!
I would give it to my mum in Ontario so that she could have a computer of her own to do her banking and Facebook with me. Right now she uses my dad’s work computer, but that means that she’s stranded when he’s away on business trips.
It would be for my oldest son. He is a gifted child with a love of math and science. He attends special classes for advanced students and they are doing more and more computer oriented research for projects (with the limited resources they have). Even though we have 2 computers in the house, his mother (a teacher) is often working on one and I am often working on the other. A netbook would give him his own computer to use to work on at home and his advanced classes. He could also take it with him to science and Haig-Brown camp this summer.
I would love this for my hubby! Was going to buy it online today but it’s $100 more! Thanks
I am looking for an awesome netbook to make all my school cohort jealous when I go back to school in January for my MBA. This looks like just the machine to give me a step up!
and would fit in my backpack so nicely
Sorry I hit send to quickly….my hubby’s computer recently konked out. Could be a result of our 17 month old but that’s another story! Hubby relies on his computer for work and it would also serve as a homework lifesaver for our 10 1/2 year old daughter!
I just started my first year of university in September and a laptop would be such a big help! We regularly have 3 hour breaks in between classes and guaranteed access to a computer to finish my homework would be so helpful. It would also be great to write all my class notes on a laptop so I can easily access them for years to come.
I would use the netbook to write a novel while sitting at Jericho beach.

As a sports blogger who often attends practices and other team sponsored events, I would love to have a Netbook to use rather than my bulky laptop. Tweetups and other live events would also put this unit to good use.
Instantly uploading high quality photos, rather than phone camera shots, taking notes, hosting live chats on location. All would be accomplished much easier with a netbook.
Thanks for the chance to win!
Dear Santa,
Every time I go on one of my motorcycle road trips I wish I had a laptop with me. The 17″ brick I have is not a trip friendly mate to lug around with me. I would like to have a laptop while I am on the road so I can download, tweak and upload new scenic photos to show case my rides.
I have been extra careful not to run over any little critters or deers, crash into any objects (trees or concrete barriers) or wipe out on ashfall. I have been very good and waiting patiently for a nice little laptop mate to accompany with me to my next road trip.
Thank you.
Happy Holidays!
Jane
My 12yo son would have his very own computer on which to write the screenplay. It will make him famous and I will be cared for in my old age.
My dream is to have a home business — yes, even at my ripe middle age — and this notebook would be oh so wonder-full, Raul !
I’d use in place of my current laptop which does double-duty as a work laptop & music studio. Please help stop it’s identity crisis!
If I had a netbook, I would use it to keep up with blogging on the go. I never find enough time between working and studying to write up a blog post. But if I have hour long skytrain rides, I can always take out the netbook and type away. Quick, simple to use, and lightweight too – what else can I ask for?
This is a true story. I am going to Spain for a month and don’t own (nor ever have) a laptop, iPhone or any other keep-in-touchy device. I’m also researching a replacement for my 10 year old desktop (don’t laugh!) and Samsung products have floated to the top of my list after reading various reviews. I would love, love to win this netbook, and promise to send you a picture of me at a bullfight (but not the kind where they kill the bull, only the kind where they acrobatically leap over them) using said netbook if I am lucky enought to win it.
I would use my netbook in my condo so i could be the kitchen or living room. Right now i have a desktop so i can only have that in the den. I would love to sit on the couch and catch up on blogs and contests! If i win the netbook i plan to give my desktop to my 8 yr old niece. That would make her Christmas! I have also tweeted @mariab76.
Haha, I also have an Acer. Waaaaaayyyy too big and clunky. And actually, about 4 years old, and therefore almost obsolete! Haha, a Netbook would certainly help me keep track of our business needs for our theatre company. As well, it would be perfect for carrying around with me to do emergency emails and such on, instead of using my phone! Save my thumbs, please, little Netbook!
If I win, I’d be able to take a lighweight laptop to school instead of my current HP tx2500z one. It’s great! But heavy.
I’d also get to use it for presentations and such that I give which would be great! Having something so portable would probably give me the impetus to start off-the-cuff blogging again rather than coming home and reflecting and doing it.
(And of course, I’m a poor university student. Give me a break!)
My wife is expecting in June…I would use this little guy to document the remainder of the pregnancy and to live stream the birth! Ummm…no nasty close ups though, don’t worry!
I would give this to my 2 kids as a Christmas gift. They are at the age where they will be needing a computer to do homework and school research. I can’t afford to get them one at the moment so it would be great to win.
please remove my second comment….my sister was using my comp and didn’t clear my name.
I’d use it to continue working on my book. There were years of talking about it, but this year, I’ve finally gotten down to brass tacks and am actually writing it. I’ve been looking for other options than my desktop computer – the setup ends up hurting my shoulders (I’ve had rheumatoid arthritis since I was a kid, so lots of damage, which means difficulty in pretty much everything, including limited computer time). Having a netbook would give me options that might help me finish the book sooner

My current computer is a decade old and takes 45 minutes to boot up! I wouldn’t use it anymore and would use this fancy new one instead. I would blog and surf and tweet and update and …
I would use it for myself as currently i don’t have a working computer. I have been going to friends houses and using theirs.
I would so love to win this contest! I would use it while traveling, instead of lugging around my 17 inch dell around, that has a burned out battery on it, so it needs to be plugged in every where I go, so it’s not as portable as it once was I hate to say:(
Boy those little notebooks, oops netbooks, are sure getting beefier all the time, that is good to see.
https://twitter.com/#!/canadianfree/status/12343457121042434
I would give it to my wife as she is a school teacher and it would help her be more productive as she could work with it anywhere.
I would use the netbook when I go on trips. Only load the documents I need on it and no worries about losing the data I have on my laptop if the netbook gets mis-placed or damaged.
I stopped carrying around my ancient laptop because the battery life just isn’t any good; yet, these new netbooks pack more power and higher resolution than my old clunker.
With the netbook, I’d be able to update my family blog on the go. With our first child, we watched a lot of media and surfed the net in bed, keeping us sane during those high-needs first months. We are hoping for the next child to come along this coming year, and the netbook would be used for the same thing, replacing the old, heavy, loud, and HOT laptop we used the first time around.
And if I decide I need to get some real work done? Remote Desktop to my work machine from portable comfort! Huzzah!
I would use it for school. I am a 3rd year university student. I will be able to work on my papers anywhere, especially when I’m at the hospital while I wait for my dad as he is receiving his chemotherapy treatments. It’s currently quite difficult for me to stay on track in school with my busy and stressful schedule and my current computer. I would be more efficient with a netbook.
Love to win this. Could really use this.
I would use it to post recipes and great coupons when we are travelling!

I would take the netbook everywhere with me
My laptop is almost 10 years old and I can tell you how surprised I am that it’s still “alive”. However, it’s super slow now and it takes 20 minutes to turn it on and another 5 minutes to load a page. So I’m fighting my hubby for using his desktop all the time. It would be such a life saver and marriage saver if I could win it.
I would love to win this to do deals remotely. I would prefer a smaller netbook as opposed to a large desktop.
Tweeted this contest using @mortgage_alerts.
Thanks.
I would love to use this as something to work with creatively on the go, I have many ideas, and sometimes, the computer is to heavy to take with me to wherever I want to go to act on it, so this’ll help
I would give this to my sister! She needs a new netbook for university to work on assignments!
Oh my lots of entries. I have a laptop and do carry it around but it’s a budget one and hence is a bit heavy. What would I do with a netbook? My job profile will change a bit starting January 2011 and hence it means that I will have to travel a bit and stay in different cities for a period of 5 to 8 days depending on the requirement. Carrying this netbook will help me in keeping in touch online with all my contacts and surf the net and catch up on my blogging. The office provides me with a system at work but not a lappy. I would mainly use the netbook for this purpose.
Plus I love Samsung and would love to take it to coffeeshops and browse a bit while I drink my coffees.
I’ve also tweeted this using @countroshculla id but…is this contest only for Canada? I’m all the way over in India.
I will use it to study, blog, do some of my volunteer work, and to tweet. This will definitely help me with my studies because my current netbook is super slow already!
Of course, I’ll also use it to read this wonderful blog and to visit the Best Buy website.
My work load is often takes 10+ hours daily of dedication and sacrifice in being a Marketing Director for a collage and a volunteer for few others in need. With only a desk top Mac, I find it difficult to take many deserved travel opportunity’s and should that happen, I work the night through within the hotels business center to complete my commitments.
I could only be delighted with the freedom and the reward of adventure given by this Samsung Notebook. It can give me the ability to explore places I would never considered before and apply that often needed extra spark of life that I would not shimmer should I be locked in a office or business center.
I would love to win this Netbook as a gift for my step-daughter. She’s 12 and is an amazing writer – this computer could help her bring her words to life!
If I won this netbook, I would either donate it (or my current laptop, which is 1 year old) to an educational organization in the city. Either BrainBoost Education, where I used to teach learning disabled students, or to EMBERS, where I currently mentor students looking to start a new business.
If I win this netbook, I would use it for my studies. I’m an English major at university and I would take this netbook with me everywhere so I can record everything as they pop in my mind easier! lol. I My old laptop (an HP =( ) stopped working after only 1.5 years! It’s time for a new, more portable device!
Tweeted as well @mna26 – thanks =)
I’d like to win this for my sister. She needs a computer for my 3 year old nephew and it was on the list for January, but she’s been off work because she was hit by a cyclist two weeks agp while walking to work. She had the light and he hit her, swore at her, and rode off without even checking to see if she was ok. Which she wasn’t. She has a concussion and whiplash and has missed to weeks of work. There went the computer fund.
My nephew is really bright and he could make good use of this. My sister wants to get him learning games. She also wants to be able to teach him how to use the computer to look things up. He’s already exhausting the books at the library. He can’t read, of course, but loves to learn and has to get books out on anything that interests him. He can tell you all about salt and where it comes from, how tornadoes and hurricanes form, and he knows how the Chunnel was built. Lately he’s into oil and would like to visit an oil refinery. Oh, and a sewage treatment plant. I kid you not.
Anyway, this netbook would be an amazing thing for my nephew.
I like to win this netbook because the keyboard of my old laptop is dead and now I have to connect an external keyboard to my laptop. Since i cant aford a new laptop now i love to win this thing! I mostly use google apps for my work and the netbook does what I want
Oooh I would like to win this netbook so I can hashtag Meetup of Meetups as #bigAssMeetup instead of the boring hashtag Minna wants haahhah

My laptop is discolouring, takes 5 minutes to boot and the battery has been dead for a year. It was always too big anyway. A netbook would be a portable coffeehouse treat for me to compile and link my buggy C++ programs.
As an independent consultant, it seems that we’re always trying to stay current with the tools of the trade while trying not to spend too much on upgrades. Being mobile and running from meeting to event is key, and a handy, lightweight netbook like this is what I’m looking for to prevent a permanent hunched back. So, to answer your question– I’d do everything on it! Would truly be my office away from home…
Would love to drag it all over the country to keep in touch with my New Zealand in-laws!
Our current home computer is ancient and on the fritz. Hoping to purchase a laptop at some point and this would be an amazing prize! Would love to tweet, FB and skype with family so my baby girl can chat with grandma face to face (so to speak).
My husband never gets his hands off our computer. A new laptop would allow me to check with my friends on Facebook and read recipes online while cooking.
Being drawn to win this giveaway would provide me with a laptop with a working battery! My poor laptop has had a dead battery for the last couple years and its owner is too cheap to buy a new one. It also seems to be having video card and logic board problems and will probably die soon. Its owner is screaming, “Please save me!”
I absolutely love the small sleek design of this laptop. I would love to start off my new discovered passion, photography, with this netbook being a huge asset. The speed and small style of the Netboook will allow me to bring the laptop to all of my photo locations with ease. I could snap a few photos of the setting sun in Kitslano Beach, upload the image on site, edit, and share!
I would use it for a few purposes…one (when weather permits) would be to sit on a beach and journal my thought, inspirations, worries and wonders. A second would be to use it for many purposes while volunteering on various medical teams…from managing my schedule, to inventory, to communications, to notes.
Now that I’m done with courses, I don’t need a full laptop, but would like a netbook to carry around. And I’m going to BlogHer next year and want a netbook to take along.
Ooooooooh well we sort of killed the acer one and I just don’t have the energy to go find a new battery for it…and we really need other computers in the house that the kids can use so THEY ARE NOT BOTHERING ME!!!!!!!

I so need a new netbook in order to be able to work away from home. Am curently chained to a desktop and a netbook would allow me to be much more mobile.
A few nights ago I couldn’t fall asleep because I had a fantastic idea that I started to map in my brain for hours with an under thought of hmm I should be writing this all down but if anyone walks into my room they’ll think I’m insane because all of the walls will be covered with paper and putting it on my glitchy computer was out of the question because the poor thing is overworked as it is and would not like to be held responsible for eating my great ideas but a netbook that was dedicated to everything other than all the memory hogging programs my computer gets stuck with would have been an amazing solution! Since I hope that my life will continue to be filled with great ideas that pop up at random intervals the netbook would be handy.
I spend a lot of time away from home and that means no internet. The net book would allow me to take it with me. Work has locked down the internet so I could use the netbook to keep updated on my favourite searches, read the news, finish a book and stay on top of my email. Most of all I could bring my favourites like pictures along with me and share them with my friends. My life could be mobile.

I would use the laptop for school. I just started a university program for computer science and I am in the beginning stages….learning all the basics of computers and increasing my typing speed! I would use the laptop to complete my homework, go on the internet, and also access journal articles. Having such a valuable tool for my schooling would help me greatly in my program!
If I was the lucky winner of the laptop, I would use it to keep in touch with family, both through email and Skype. We have a new addition to the family and they live in Alberta now, so it would be wonderful to see her grow and keep in touch! We also have wonderful friends in Washington and family on the island, so having the laptop would be a perfect way to keep in touch with loved ones. It is amazing how much communication venues have changed over the years!
I am a stereotypical “starving student” whose old 12 inch notebook recently stopped working. I am on transit constantly (live in Steveston, school at Kwantlen in Richmond, work in White Rock, girlfriend at UBC, occasional trips home to Kamloops on the Greyhound) so a net book would be amazing for getting work done while on the road. Thanks for the great contest, Raul!
If I was the lucky winner chosen, I would give the laptop to my best friend. Her current laptop just got a virus and she lost everything, all her pictures but more importantly all her school work. She is currently studying away in New York and because it is so expensice to go to school there, she is so far in debt she cant afford to buy another laptop right now. She spends what little time she has studying in the library and can’t skype anymore to talk to her loved ones back in Canada. So if I won I would give it to her.
The life of a blogger. So many times I’ve needed to squeeze in posts here and there and being accustomed to only writing (typing) on a computer I’ve lost some valuable chances to whip up some posts in a spare moment here and there. If I had a netbook to carry around with me I can me multi-task and be more efficient throughout my day.

I’d give it to my grandma (75) who has yet to learn how to use a computer.
Someone is the family is getting awfully close to high school!
I have many reasons why I would like a net book, but the two best would be so that my five year old daughter has a computer that she can use around the house and so that my wife can watch Thai movies/TV from her home country before she falls asleep at night. Unfortunately there is no cash right now in our family budget to buy one.
the acer i’ve been using for the mba core broke on me! now i’m laptopless. imagine a laptopless mba student – unheard of! if that isn’t the best reason, i don’t know what is!
I think it would make a great start computer for parents to learn computing with.
I’d use it when I travel and especially when I go to and from meetings. Definitely handy to have a small netbook!
I would use this laptop, to decimate the vile beast that is Deathwing in World of Warcraft, between reading Hummingbird604 blog posts, looking up recipes, and tweets of course
If i had the netbook i will never have to rush back home and do my essays or what not. I never had a laptop or netbook and would love to win one. It will help me alot.
I’d use it on the go when my iPhone battery gives out!
I would give it to my sister so she could write from the comfort of her couch with a cat in her lap (she has an ancient desktop computer).
If I won this netbook I would tote it around for when i’m doing some homework at like a coffeeshop or something because my macbook is really heavy and a huge pain to tote around everywhere
i will use it…
…as an excuse to finally throw away my crappy old malfunctioning dell. facebook, twitter, email and video streaming – thats all i really do online and it would be nice to do it faster
I’d give this to my girlfriend as she desperately needs a new computer. the one she currently uses is just too big and makes alot of noise. a netbook would give her more space on her work desk.
The first thought that leaps to my mind is all the freedom a netbook like this would provide me. I have, for the past few months, been dabbling with film. (I’ve been bitten by the stop motion and time lapse bugs.) Winning this netbook would give me the freedom to view and edit in the field. My laptop’s a clunker and I often feel like I’m wielding a battle axe when I’m out in public with the beast.
My girlfriend desperately needs a new notebook, and this would fit her needs perfectly – plus it would keep me in the good books!
@hummingbird604 @BBYCanada my autistic 9-year old sign cant speak & is learning to type. he’d benefit so much from his own puter! #hb604xmas
I would use the netbook to retire my old stand alone pc that was built 5 years ago by a computer science grad, so while it works fine, it’s very, very slow!
I would give it to my young daughters. They love technology & they would love having something that is all their own to put Barbie & Disney Princess stickers on.
As someone who spends 90 minutes on a bus commuting everyday, a netbook would make my life so much more fun, be it reading all those pdfs I need to read, or catching up on blogs, or writing. As a morning person, it would be great to use that 45 minutes on the bus to create, whether it’s words, or music, or action.

I would donate it to Intrepid Pens which is facilitated by Amanda. They were recently given some introductory computer lessons via the VPL and are looking for opportunuties to continue that. While they are asking for space and instructors to be donated, would it be great if they had a laptop of their very own for the group to use? yes, I think it would be. This group allows people in the DTE to read, write and share their work. It is a very valuable grass roots group and if I won this laptop, I would offer it to the group via Amanda.
I would sit in bed with my 3yo son and show him pictures and video of the amazing world we live in, showing him the wonders and possibilities of his life ahead.
or get him addicted to Farmville.
Either/or.
If I won the netbook, I would give it to my parents for Christmas. My mom and dad are traveling to India this year to visit my grandparents. I think both my parents could definitely use it for the long flights. Also, my parents only have the one aging desktop, and are constantly fighting for it.
A netbook would be perfect for my mom when she has to travel alone as it will be light enough for her to schlep it through multiple airports on her own.
i need to purchase a new portable computing unit as my current one has an ‘not worth replacing’ smash in the screen by an angry husband; the netbook would be great for toting around while we are travelling up north or down in the US, we already have an external drive so we can watch DVDs, etc.
i tried to check out a special door crasher deal Staples had but they were all out before i even got in line
i’ll be tweeting as well
I was actually going to buy this netbook so I might as well try to win it!
My laptop that I’ve had for 4 years recently died a very painful death. Since I plan on traveling A LOT over the next few years, a netbook would make it easy to stay in touch without weighing me down!
I can barely retain a thought!….therefore I will use it all the time, as you need to have something right at hand when the muse strikes!
Seeing is believing. That’s what most clients tell me. So, how handy would it be to be able to show them their concepts appear live and in colour on the screen in front of them as we discuss their ad campaigns. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt to be able to share online thoughts while on the road! Light, portable and loaded with memory – what a dream. Thank you Santa Clause, for picking me….
@rajikaur Do I really NEED a netbook NO …. Do I WANT a netbook YES. If I win this netbook – it would be my first contest I ever won! Also, it would be a great addition to my trip to India to document my journey and would donate my old laptop to a school in the village I am visiting! Finger crossed!
My current laptop is from 2003 and weighs a ton so it is difficult to use it as a portable computer and I have come to just not bother with it.
I would use the netbook to take notes for some classes I am planning to start in January. I also have been toying with the idea of starting a blog and the netbook would be perfect for me to cart around on my daily travels and blog away to my heart’s content.
I will use it to enter contest.
I would enjoy the WEBCAM, my old computer doesn’t have one and, cause is an Apple ( thanks to Arieanna that gave it to me ), an older model, is expensive to get one . Seeing my family and friends that live outside of Canada would be SWEEEEEETTTTTT!!!!!!
I would also super enjoy having a NEW one.
Mexican food coming your way on the New Year
If I was so lucky to win this I would not use it, rather I would give it to
my cousin who sadly had his laptop stolen a week ago. He would use
it for school and I am sure facebook etc. Really bites to lose stuff
right before the holidays, oh well. Samsung does make some darn
good products.

I actually would give this to my Aunt who just lost her husband. I thought it would be a nice Christmas gift for her that might perk her up a little bit. She has never had a laptop and I thought it would be nice for her to have to take with her when she visits her grandchildren to keep in touch with other family and maybe download pics she takes of them while she’s visiting. Thanks for the chance!
Hi Raul,
Winning this netbook would help me in my new business I have started a few months ago. I am needing a netbook to aide my clients when meeting with them at their place of business. I can not afford one at this time due to my business being small and needing the additional funds I am receiving on for future software purchases for my business.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that you will draw my name.
Love your blog and I Hsve enjoyed your Tweets on Twiiter. Very entertaining.
Cheers and Season’s Greetings!

Hi Raul,
The main use for the netbook would be to work on a novel I am writing about my daughter Hayley who was born three and a half months premature. My goal for this book is to reach parents of premature babies and give them hope and to show them that no matter how hopeless it looks it will get better. Writing from my desktop at home means that I have to sit far away from my little angel.
I’m crossing everything I can!!!
Scott
My mom just got her computer and all of her most valuable belongings stolen from her car when she was moving a week ago. You can only imagine how devastating it is to lose your computer and all of your most precious belongings. Although she is generally a Mac girl I think she could really use a computer. Of course she will use it for everything because who can live without a computer these days.
Having a netbook would free me from my apartment!
I spend a lot of time either working on projects or job-hunting and the somewhat prohibitive idea of packing up and hauling my rather heavy laptop to a coffee shop means that I can go days without seeing the outside world.
Having a netbook would allow me to me connected to the internet wherever I went. I will be able to stay in contact with my family and friends.

I love my netbook, and find it to be a great, portable smaller alternative to a full-size heavy laptop. Also is less obtrusive, on top of the coffee table to run Twitter apps, in the evening. The winner will definitely enjoy it !!!
I would love to have a netbook. I can’t imagine not having ready access to the internet and so I often take my laptop with me when I’m out and about (just in case you know). Having a netbook with me would be fantastic. I could use it to blog whenever wherever I happen to be. (Plus when I’m at home I would be able to share it with my 4 year old son who is really getting into the online life.)

I’m a journalist, blogger and editor so my “working hours” are just about 24/7 except for when I’m sleeping. I’m always inspired with new ideas for stories, and even sometimes think of the most perfect sentence but often have no where to jot down my ideas. My desk is covered in post-its, random corners of newspaper that I’ve ripped off and jotted a note onto, napkins, notepad paper, you name it. It makes it really difficult to stay organized. I have a regular ol’ Mac laptop which has become increasingly cumbersome to tote around. As an affordable alternative, I bought a digital voice recorder and started to speak my notes into it, but found myself slightly embarrassed when I spoke into it in public – I got the feeling from strangers’ looks that they couldn’t decide whether I was brilliant or completely crazy. A netbook would be a wonderful solution to this quandary. I can blog on the seabus and thus post a lot more and be a lot more productive in my writing endeavours. In other words, the netbook would not only save my working life, it would help me maintain an outward appearance of sanity and composure in public.
I would actually give it to my partner who was hoping for a netbook or ipad for Christmas; both unnafordable at this time. He used to study his Suffism on his mac laptop, which he had to sell after I was laid off back in July. My partner wants to start compiling his ebooks so he can take them with him on-the-go.
Thanks for the entry!
I’ve been looking at getting a netbook – the bookkeeping software I use in my business doesn’t work on a Mac, and I don’t really need (or want) two full computers. A netbook would be perfect!
I do a lot of extra work & spend hours on end sitting in tents waiting to be called to set. This Samsung Netbook N145 would sure help the time fly by more quickly after I’ve finished doing all the crossword puzzles in the daily newspapers.

I have a lap top, it’s a piece of shit but it still works and I love the mobility of it. The Samsong Netbook I would give it to my little sister, she is in her second year of university and has been going into campus to use the school computers for all her work and papers. I would be great if she could work from home.
I would love to have a laptop that I could take on my geocaching adventures. Thanks for the contest
If I won this netbook, my life would be so much easier. I currently have a PC which just crashed due to a hard drive problem and I can now only access the Internet via my smart phone. It’s ok for email but browsing the Internet and typing out long messages can be difficult.
I’m currently planning a trip to Europe in the spring and a netbook computer would be a perfect ‘companion’ to record my travels, store photos and allow me to stay connected to friends and family on Facebook and Twitter via WiFi.
If I won this netbook I would use it to continue my writing as it has stopped since someone broke into my home and stole my netbook this past Wednesday. I was heart broken to come back home after dropping my son off to find it missing. At first I thought I was crazy and had put it someone where until I realized the Wii was missing too and found the broken basement window. I really need another one and I can’t afford to but one.

Love all your many giveaways!
It would be a gift for my hubby…plain and simple. His laptop is old…and I mean old.
My hubby needs a netbook & this would be perfect for him!
We are currently sharing my MBP and he is constantly getting frustrated with it coz he doesn’t like how it’s set up. He prefers using PCs. This would be a perfect christmas gift for him as well! =)
I’d share it w/ my husband and we’d take it to the local coffee shop. Plus, my laptop has some crazy virus that is making it difficult to use, and I’m afraid it’s nearing the end of its lifespan. The netbook would be a replacement.
I would absolutely love to be able to type on an actualy keyboard, instead of my smartphone keyboard which was obviously designed for people with miniature digits!! So frustrating! And it’s been a while since I’ve won anything, so it’s about time for me to get back to my winning way.
Merry Christmas to all y’all!!
If I were to win this laptop, I would give it to my mom because she really really really (hope I made my point) needs a new laptop.
A new netbook would be nice to bring along with me on a family trip to Poland!
Wish I had it now to keep me company in London Heathrow!
I would use it to keep me entertained on the train going between Vancouver and Seattle.
Winning this would mean I can regain my online mobility!
If I win this it can take the place of the 15″ laptop I’d be bringing with me to spend a few months in Argentina. I want to learn Spanish and I think the Argentine accent will make me stand out! lol
It would be perfect to start a new semester with a new netbook!
Can I be evil and say I’ll be going around town ‘war-driving’ with the netbook if I win?
lol
Winning this can be a great welcoming present for my move to Vancouver!
I can see myself going from hotspot to hotspot with this while enjoying the urban landscape of this fair city of ours…
I would not mind bringing a prize back to San Francisco with me since it will make the holiday trip up to Vancouver that much more memorable!
I’ll be going to Ecuador next month to visit recent expat grandparents in Cuenca as well as seeing the Galápagos Islands afterwards so having a new netbook to help document the trip is like adding cherry to top the cake off!
Since I’ll be starting a new business in the new year, winning this netbook will be like getting extra seed capital, more like a seed computer!
Winning this means mobile trading, here I come!
I’ll be attending a conference in Panama in Feb. and this would be a nice piece of kit to tote around for it as well as the business Spanish course I’ll be taking in afterwards so I hope I’ll win…
You know where I would use it? Transit.
Netbooks are superb for the portability they provide. I’d tether it to my cellphone and I could surf, write, email or blog during all my travels.
And with the battery life of these babies I wouldn’t need to worry if I was delayed.
UPDATE – I randomized all entries and the winner is Brittany Yu – congrats! And as I said on Twitter, my heart sinks because I don’t have enough netbooks to give away. Stay tuned in 2011! I may have some other goodies for contest!
