i.r.l. by Shadows & Dreams Theatre Company (win tickets)
I am always puzzled, intrigued and excited by experimental theatre pieces that promise intrigue and excitement. And more so, when my friends are in them (in this case, my friend Andrea Loewen). irl (in real life) by Rick Robinson is having its Canadian premiere, put together by Shadows & Dreams Theatre Company, and they’ve been kind enough to sponsor a ticket giveaway for Wednesday November 10th at 8pm.
When the four characters in “i r l (in real life)” arrive in Los Angeles for a convention of their favorite online game they are thinking of more than just swords and dragons: longtime friends online, they’ve decided to use this convention as an excuse to meet for the first time “in real life.” What they find at the convention hall is sometimes more and sometimes less than what they’d hoped, and they all must struggle to come to grips with the differences between their idealized online personas and their more complicated real-life selves.
irl (in real life) was a “Critics Pick” at the 2002 Los Angeles Edge of the World Festival.
Tickets are a mere $15 at the door, CASH ONLY (Seating is limited), and reservations – (604) 515-0704. irl is performing at Havana Theatre (1212 Commercial Drive, Vancouver), Show Times: Wednesday, November 10th – 8pm Thursday, November 11th – 8pm, Friday, November 12th – 8pm, Saturday, November 13th – 8pm. For additional information or ticket reservations call 604-515-0704.
The Director Stephen Elcheshen is from New Westminster, and actors are from the Lower Mainland too. Featuring: Nigel Brooke (New Westminster), Michael Chase (Vancouver), Andrea Loewen (Vancouver), and Paul Schulz (Vancouver).
To enter my giveaway, let me know if you’ve ever met anyone from Twitter, Facebook or from reading their blog, in real life. Drop a comment on this post to enter my giveaway. I’ll draw a random winner from all entrants on Tuesday November 9th at 5:30pm. You can also retweet this post (there’s a little Twitter button down at the end of my post) for an additional entry.

I actually met the love of my life through a fluke online meeting, and we met IRL two months later.
As you know, I am also a blogger. One afternoon I was in New West at my favourite little sushi place (Ki Sushi) and a young woman bashfully approached me and said, “Are you Stacey Robinsmith” to which I replied that in fact I am and she said, “This is a bit weird, but I follow your blog!”
I actually met @followmefoodie, @vanfoodster @mightyvanilla IRL. Started following them for one reason or another and then, over a month I just happened to run into each of them. Still waiting on @thenetworkhub (Though we have emailed) and @kk. The best part of twitter meets is the puzzled look you get as you try to determine if their avatar matches them. I usually open with the ‘Are you on Twitter’ then ‘wait are you @…’ and hope for the best.
I met you! And @thenetworkhub and @iglooqueen!
I’ve met Erin Ireland in person after talking to her on Twitter and reading her blog and she is as lovely in person as she is online!
I’ve been lucky enough to meet a couple of traveler bloggers IRL. One recognized me on the streets of Vang Vieng, Laos and the others we invited to stay with us once we returned home. It was lovely meeting both of them and I now consider them friends!

Surprisingly enough, I’ve met a good number of Twitter buddies IRL, including you, Minna, Gus, John B, Stacie B, April, Rebecca, etc. Most recently, I bumped into @nansiepants while attending a screening at @vaffvancouver.
I think most of the people who’ve met you have known about your social media activities beforehand. I definitely read your blog and twitter feeds long before meeting you in person.
I have not been on Twitter for that long, and yet I am meeting people who have begun to follow me irl at social networking events. Seems that the people who socialize on Twitter socialize just as much irl.
Also, and this is embarrassing and should get me an extra entry just for admitting – I used to play wow and became pen-pals with some people from back East. I have never met them, but I feel like I have from our lengthy letters.
UPDATE – The winner is Cecilia Lu – congratulations!
