The Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival (Sep 25th, 2010)
I am by all measures an East Vancouver boy. So whenever I get PR pitches about stuff that is happening in my neighbourhood, I’m always up for promoting it. This is a really cool event (and it’s FREE OF CHARGE!) – very excited about the Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival (produced by the Still Moon Society).
The Moon Festival starts with the Harvest Fair from 4-7 pm at Slocan Park by the 29th Ave Skytrain station, with live music, food, and a home-grown vegetable competition. At 7 pm, the Twilight Lantern Parade will wind its way along the Renfrew Ravine, and end at Renfrew Park, where there will be festivities, fire spinning, stilt-dancing music, a tea garden and a spectacular fireworks finale.
The Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival is Still Moon Art Society’s signature annual event and is co-produced with the Renfrew Park Community Association. It takes place each autumn at the full moon closest to the Equinox, the time of the Asian mid-autumn celebration and the European Harvest Fair. The festival is preceded by workshops to build lanterns, and learn stilt walking, shadow puppetry, choreography, costume design and fire spinning. Local youth are also mentored by professional musicians to learn original music.
