Win 2 weeks of @BarreFitness classes

Barre Fitness Launch Aug 2010 I recently attended the launch of Barre Fitness, a local Yaletown studio (thanks Almira and Jive Communications for the invite!). The opening was catered by The Refinery (not-so-coincidentally I saw my friend Lauren Mote there). While I was at the opening, I asked questions about what Barre Fitness was, particularly because I didn’t know (before I went to the opening) what it was supposed to be. Seeing as I do cardiovascular training pretty much 3 times a week and 3 times a week of weights, my main concern was whether I could combine this regime with what I am already doing.

Barre Fitness, is an exceptional one-hour regime of ballet, pilates, strength and flexibility training using a ballet barre. This total body conditioning technique has been intertwined to create an intense workout, guaranteed to transform and sculpt your entire body. The classes are choreographed to the hottest music in a fun, supportive and high-energy environment.

Having danced contemporary before, I am one of the males who are not concerned at all about the ballet barre (I’ve used it). But the interesting thing I found was how much ballet was integrated into the actual workout, and I liked that element. I will be checking out their classes, and Ella and Michelle have kindly agreed to give away a two week pass for one of my readers. To enter, tell me what kind of workout do you like the best (or the worst, for that matter!). I will draw a winner on Wednesday August 11th, at 2pm.

I love any sort of fitness class that combines fun music, dance and cardio…so this class sounds perfect! I would love to try it out, even if I don’t win…but I’d also like to win! :)

I do workouts at home using Firm Fitness DVD’s. It may sound lame but they combine KILLER weight based workouts with aerobics. You can upload your DVD Firm library with their website and it creates workout plans for you based on different goals: calorie burning cardio, upper body, lower body, sculpt and cardio. I love TheFirm.

I have a love/hate relationship with running! I run at least three days a week and keep a couple of weights at home for upper strength. Running gives me a chance to change my routes daily as I easily get bored at a gym. I enjoy running through Stanley Park and around False Creek.

…On sunny summer weekends, I enjoy golf and of course pitch n putt with a nice cold beer. Does that count for a work out?! ;)

I used to dance and always loved ballet! I would love to try Barre Fitness, as it would give me a more variety of work out and would build balance and strength. Of course, it would shape my runner legs to what they used to be!

I am a yoga fan… I love the mental/physical combo… and a little sweat without too much impact!

I like any workout that makes me feel as though I’m getting immediate results. This could be hot yoga (major sweat factor), pilates (tightening of core muscles), or a good aerobic class like 20/20/20 or cardio kickbox.

I’m obsessed with hot yoga at the moment, so anything else at this point would be great:)

I would love to win a 2 week pass at barre fitness! I don’t work out currently as I am a busy mom who is trying to keep up with her kid! Barre fitness sounds perfect!!

I like to cross train, for example 3 days a week cardio (trail running) and 3 days of strengh/flexibility exercises (pilates, hot yoga, barre?). To me, the combination of a physical and mental workout that balance my energy, something that help me find a “flow” state.
