The Veranda at the @FairmontEmpress Hotel
When I spoke at WordCamp Victoria 2010 a few weeks ago I stayed at the Fairmont Empress Hotel. I had heard a lot about the afternoon tea, and Lorraine mentioned that there was a lovely bar at the Empress that we should totally try: The Veranda. The weather wasn’t cooperating so we ended up staying indoors (Lorraine can get away with A LOT… she requested that the bar opened the indoor portion even though they were closed, because she had been sick lately and didn’t want to risk being in cold weather in the Veranda’s patio). We had Katharine Holmes join us as well. We all ordered different versions of martinis, with me ordering a couple of Manhattan’s ($12).
I will fully admit that I loved The Veranda, for many reasons – the decor is so 1950s, the drinks were amazing (thank you Lorraine for buying us drinks that night!) and the service was absolutely, completely impeccable. I will definitely come back with my Mom this summer (probably at the end of the month).

I actually wanted to go to the Bengal Room, which I love, but they had loud jazz playing and I couldn’t take it with my annoying inner ear problem. That’s also why I couldn’t sit outside in a draft. And the Library bar, which I also love, was closed. So they were very nice and let us sit inside.
