Pushing beyond my physical limits to complete a project
I am not a bad planner, in general. I live a very regimented life that includes exercise, academic work, social media appearances, speaking engagements, teaching, research and time with my friends. But every so often, I leave *something* behind that needs to be taken care of, and that will, eventually, be resolved (if and when I put the time).
My desk at The Network Hub is, for the most part, organized. But I didn’t spend enough time this term (because I was teaching 4 courses altogether, on top of my consulting and research) to keep the rest of my office in optimum conditions, including, certainly, my own library. I pushed myself beyond my physical limits because I didn’t really sleep until I cleaned up my office, organized the books, finished some consulting work, a paper I’m working on for a conference, and by the end of it, I was absolutely exhausted and drained. I really shouldn’t push my luck now that I have a much more regimented lifestyle.
I go to bed early and wake up early, so every time I do these all-nighters, “must-finish-this-project-I-am-so-close-I-can-even-feel-it” I end up absolutely non-functional. And THAT is the wrong thing to do.
