Win tickets to GODSPELL at @PacificTheatre (musical)
Who in their right mind doesn’t love musicals? I, for one, definitely adore musicals. Particularly because I used to participate in musical theatre shows when I was back in Mexico. And besides, let’s face it, I’ve always had a soft spot for the Vancouver theatre scene. The kind folks at Pacific Theatre know my weakness for musicals, and how excited I get when I am lucky enough to give away tickets for shows.
These tickets allow one lucky reader (and a Plus One) to have a taste for the great theatrical work we have in Vancouver. So, this time, Pacific Theatre has given me a pair of tickets to give away for their musical GODSPELL. The keywords that GODSPELL includes made me laugh – Singing! Dancing! Sheep! Goats! Thou shalt be thrilled!
GODSPELL will have a relatively long run (from May 28th to July 3rd) but given how popular musicals are, and how much fun this one looks, I think it’s better to get tickets soon. Directed by Sarah Rodgers, my understanding is that this production of Godspell is embedded within an episode of 1970′s sketch comedy show Laugh In, putting Jesus and Judas alongside Goldie Hawn, Lily Tomlin, Dick Martin. It sounds like it will be a funny musical. The shows will go from Tuesday through Saturday at 8pm with 2pm matinee on Saturday at Pacific Theatre, 1440 W 12th Ave. There will be an artist talkback Friday, July 4th. For tickets ($17-34, GST incl.) call 604.731.5518 or go to the Pacific Theatre website.
For a chance to win a pair of tickets, tell me before May 25th, 2010 at 2:00pm, in a comment on this blog entry, about your last experience with musical theatre. If you have a Twitter account, please include that in your name (e.g. “Tracy Smith, @tracysmith”). Have you ever attended a musical, and if so, how did you like it? I will draw a lucky winner at 2:00pm on May 25th. As usual, my contest rules apply: I’ll contact you by email and/or Twitter, and if I don’t hear from you in 24 hours, I will redraw a winner. Good luck!

@annavancouver : my last musical theatre scene experience was yesterday at Anza Club ! I enjoyed there The Wild Party ^^ It was awesome because the music is live, the actors are dressed like in the 20′s, they are dancing and singing. I wanna give a special bonus to Karin Konoval (Dolores Montoya) !
My last experience with musical theatre is actually my current one – I am playing a sailor in FVGSS’ production of HMS Pinafore. It has been such a great experience being with such a talented cast. The musical scene in Vancouver is just amazing – very driven people with loads of talent to spare. I am sure that Godspell is the same.
I’m looking forward to both watching and being a part of other musicals in Vancouver in the future!
I haven’t seen a musical in years. I think the last time I managed to see one was in London where I saw “Blood Brothers”. It was one of those last minute discounted “buy on the day” tickets. I knew nothing about the musical before seeing it, but enjoyed it so much that the next time I visited London I went to see it again!!
The last musical I saw was Nevermore at the Arts Club. One of my favourite shows this season for sure. The songs were so catchy that I, and everyone I know who saw it, was singing them for the next couple weeks.
My daughter was just ‘Anne’ in Anne of Green Gables, with Xtreme Theatre, a home-school musical theatre group in Maple Ridge. I was the head of the props committee and my friend Barb, the head of the sets. We both have our birthdays at the end of May and talked about celebrating one evening together by going to see Godspell. It’s one of her favourites, but I’ve never seen it before. We both participated in musical theatre in high school and both love watching whenever we have the chance (and can afford it). Looking forward to it. Thanks.
@jpadamson: Sarah Rodgers is such an amazing actress and director!
Now onto the last musical I saw. It’s been a long time I think. I think it was a musical adaption of a Midsummer Night’s Dream. I saw it done by a small theatre group in Vancouver and it was absolutely amazing!
I think the last musical I saw was the UBC Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s production of the Mikado at Kitsilano Secondary School a couple years ago. A friend of mine was conducting the orchestra. Clearly I’m overdue to attend another musical!
@amfriesen love musicals either on tv or live; hubby didn’t care for them THEN we saw Evil Dead the musical; greatest non-traditional musical ever as it’s based on the outrageous movie and was Canadian made
would love to see this musical as loved the movie version and have the original LP but no player; saw Jesus Chris Superstar when it was at Stanley Park but didn’t care for the bugs
thanks for the opportunity and getting the word out
Hey Raul, great blog! The closest thing I went to that resembled a Musical was something called “De La Guarda” which was performed by a travelling group who visited Seoul, South Korea in 2004. The performance was truly amazing. We all started by being herded into a small dark room with black covered cloth walls, and a ceiling of white paper. Electronic music surrounded us, and, as we looked up at the paper covered ceiling, we would see strange shadows of people… as if they were flying back and forth. Sometimes, a face of a person would appear hovering on the other side of the paper, trying to peer through at us… then finally after about 15 minutes of standing in this darkened room, the paper broke, and a person attached to a bungee cord flew in upside down, grabbed one of the audience members, and pulled them up! out of the room!!! Next thing we knew, the entire ceiling of paper was ripped off, the black coverd walls came down, and we found ourselves in a large auditorium with 75 foot ceilings, and 15 people dressed in retro 60′s gear (brown suits, and green ties, funky shoes etc) attached to bungee cords running along the walls! In front of us was a large theatre screen, with a projected shadow of a timpani drummer, drumming to the beats behind us! Large fans blew air at us from all directions, and even water was dripping down from a large bucket suspended from the ceilings! The dancers simulated a rave like atmosphere, crawled on the floors, grabbed at some un-expecting Koreans, and even pulled several in the air for acrobatic feats!
It was a wild show… and I’d have to say, the best performance I’ve ever experienced… all of the senses blown away…
De la guarda…. thanks Seoul, and thanks for making me put this down on paper… er virtual paper.. cheers Raul
I like a good musical, last one I saw was great – The Arts Club Buddy Holly story. Prior to that I saw The Wild Part at the Anza Club. That was a fun time!! @CynnamonS
