I love my life
I was talking to my best friend from childhood (he lives in Mexico) and he was telling me about some exciting news he had to share. We had a lovely conversation on MSN and at the very end, he told me “it sounds like you’re living the life you’ve always wanted to”. I paused for a moment to read what AJAF had just told me, and I agreed. There are times, of course, when I wish I had never entered the world of social media. The potential for drama is HUGE. It’s difficult sometimes to distinguish when you’re doing the right thing. But there is one great thing that social media has brought to me: meaningful relationships. I’ve gained a lot from building an online presence. I’ve found life-long friends.
I have exactly the kind of life right now that I have always wanted. Not to say that I didn’t before, but right now, I’m doing pretty much the perfect mixture of what I want to do. I have a life with fantastic friends. I lead a healthy life, I do research, write on my personal blog, publish papers, attend conferences, give talks and I teach. I have an opportunity, in particular, to do what I am passionate about.
And that is something to be grateful for. I love my life, and I wouldn’t trade it for anyone. I am by no means rich. I hold a crushing debt. I live in a tiny space. I budget my expenses. I don’t travel as much as I would love to, nor do I spend enough money buying clothes (which I love) nor gadgets (which I also love)
But you know what? I think I have exactly the kind of life I love. As I told my Dad over the phone the other day: I wake up every morning, smell the breeze and I feel SO incredibly alive. That feeling is pure gold.
