Fundraiser Tweetup for Christine
From my dear friend Lisa Thomas-Tench (@lisamedia on Twitter)
This is one of those situations that only comes along once every decade or so. One of my oldest friends, Christine, just lost her husband in a sudden car accident 3 days ago. He was hit by a bus and died only a few hours later. She has a one year old baby, her name is Sydney. I have known Christine since she was 3 years old and I was 7. She is the kindest person, and waited a long time to find Lauchie, her husband, and got pregnant right after they got married.
As Christine quit her job to raise her child, her husband was her provider. For the next three months or so, his funds, and thus her income, is tied up in legal stuff. Her parents are retired so she can’t count on them for much. I can’t imagine being in her situation. I know that Sydney is the only thing that is keeping her going right now.
I’m not asking for money — but if people happen to have some gift cards that you will likely not use (for a normal store like grocery, gas, Shoppers, or the Bay, that kind of thing), it would be super awesome if you could pass them my way. I don’t think she would accept cash from strangers easily, so I thought gift cards might be the best thing. I’m just really trying to find a way to give her some support during what is the most awful time in her life. If you’re able to help, just drop me a note @lisamedia.
Lisa is organizing a fundraising Tweetup for Christine – details here -
Tweetup for a cause, free appies on Glowbal’s dime! drinks on me (Lisa) w/donation. Tuesday March 9th at 5pm at Afterglow Lounge Yaletown
Lisa was thinking donation suggested around $15 cash and donors will get one free drink! Or they can just bring a donation of a gift card or similar and buy their own drinks.

Thank you Raul! You are amazing for doing this. I hope we have a great turnout! And thank you to Colleen Coplick for making the arrangements for the event!
I will do my absolute best to drop in with a gift card of some sort or at least get a card to you to pass along. Thank you for thinking of others!!
Raul I second Lisa’s note. Thank you so much for blogging about this. I’m planning on writing something up as well. Also, thank you for sending it out to the Vancouver Blogger’s Network. The more people we can get in the door who have gift cards or are willing to donate just $15, will make such a difference. I can’t imagine how Christine must be feeling.
Good on all of you for organizing this. I can only imagine what your friend is going through. I’ll be away, but best of luck with the event.
I just got the message now about this fundraiser, and Mike and I were out this evening. I’ll try to give Cara $15 to pass on to you.
