A Vancouver Blogger central directory
Last Wednesday, when I was sharing my PR tips with The PR Group, I was asked whether there was a central directory of bloggers in Vancouver. I pointed them out to my good friend Rebecca Bollwitt’s link love page, which is perhaps one of the most comprehensive ones I’ve seen around. I felt really bad because I was going to move my blogroll to a Link Love page and never got around that. So, as you can see on my right hand sidebar, I have resurrected my blogroll while I get around to moving it to a links page.
Furthermore, I would like to create a directory of local Vancouver bloggers. Those of you who can find yourselves on my blogroll, don’t worry about leaving a comment. I already have you there. But those of you who are not, by all means feel free to drop a comment on this blog. I will be creating a directory for Vancouver (and British Columbia) bloggers. I am, after all, the Vancouver Blogger Meetup Organizer.
I also offered my knowledge of the local Vancouver bloggers to any PR people who needed suggestions on which bloggers to pitch (as I know most of them), but to save my time, you can also refer to this resource. I might find a Google Documents way that may make it easier, but for now, commenting is fine. Feel free to re-tweet this post and share with anyone you know who blogs in Vancouver.
And those of you who weren’t on my blogroll, don’t feel slighted – It was mostly defunct! Now I’m resuscitating it.

You might want to have a look at it for a few ideas for the directory, including the comments on the post.

I have doubts as to how many PR pitches would be appropriate given what I write about , but wouldn’t mind being in the BC bloggers list you’re developing. Will the directory just be word of mouth, or are you deploying spiders to try and find people/blogs?

I do a couple of blogs:

This is a great idea Raul, nice work!
Some people call it a blog. I’m going to assume that is a compliment:

Hi!
Could you add http://www.designvetica.com/blog
Not much of a blog at the moment, but we should be rolling soon.
Thanks
But… what’s the point of a “directory of Vancouver bloggers?” Are these bloggers who blog about Vancouver issues? People who want pitches from local companies? As you know, I blog from here and always have, but 60% of my readership is overseas. I have two hyperlocal blogs, but the rest are not particularly “Vancouver” except in that they are written here and reflect the mindset of a Vancouverite.
At one point I had a mission to Follow on Twitter everyone in Vancouver I could find…trust me, you’ll drive yourself insane if you try to do this for blogs. In. Sane.
How about an intermittent blog like mine?

I concur with Raincoaster – what is the point of a blog registry? Is it a one-stop-list that PR companies can use to help qualify why blogger relations is a worthwhile service to provide (there are 100 Vancouver bloggers therefore we charge X to outreach to them)? Because that, in itself, perpetuates mis-pitching practices. As a PR pro, I have struggled with this same concept and have debated this point with others in the profession. My firm specializes in connecting companies with the mom market and outreach to mom bloggers is a large component of our business. But not all mom bloggers are alike, just like not all Vancouver bloggers are alike. Just because you have a registry doesn’t mean that you can approach every single one with the same pitch – thus what is the point of a registry? Is it to support the community or to demonstrate to marketers what the prospective return-on-investment could be if they allocate dollars towards outreaching to this community.
I appreciate the efforts towards creating and maintain a registry but as the blogging community grows, what’s the overall purpose of such a list?
@ raincoaster and @ Jeanette – For me, it’s about the community and knowing who blogs about what.
