Land of Confusion (Genesis and Disturbed)
I have very eclectic musical tastes, but one thing I can never deny is that I have always been a fan of Genesis and in particular, Phil Collins. I went to have a coffee to Trees Organic Coffee (West Hastings and Granville, near the Canada Line station for Waterfront) and as I was making my way in, I ended up listening to a song I was trying really hard to identify. I could hear Phil Collins, but I was so tired I couldn’t really make out what the song was – all I knew was that it was one I really liked). I ended up asking (as usual) my friends on Twitter, and Jon Jennings informed me that it was Land of Confusion. From what Chris tells me, there is another version by Disturbed. So here are the two versions. Which one do you prefer?

Not heard the Disturbed cover before but found it to not be unpleasant… close enough to the original to not be some weird reimagining but different enough to have their own stamp on it.
But unfortunately when you’re dealing with a song I must have heard about 500 times, the original’s going to be almost impossible to beat.
Land of Confusion was one of the first CD singles released in the UK & one of the first CDs I bought for my shiny new £300 CD player. Needless to say it got a heck of a lot of playing. Combine that with the video that was super popular & on TV all the freaking time… that song’s been stuck in my head for the last 20 years
I’ve absolutely loved the Disturbed version ever since it was first released.
I agree with Jon, although the first time I remember hearing Land of Confusion, it happened to be the cover by Disturbed. In fact, I didn’t know for some time that it was even a cover.
That said, I’m down with Genesis so therefore can accept that the original has some appeal.
Oh, that messes with my head when I hear a cover, get to love it and only LATER discover that it’s a cover.
I want to feel loyalty to the version I love but also want to give respect to the original. Conflict!
I like both of them. But hearing Phil Collins always brings back a cool memory. There was a girl that lived by us who was best friends with my cousin. Her name was Joely Collins. We heard rumors that she was Phil Collins daughter but no one was too sure considering Phil Collins was never ever seen. Except for one day there was a party at my cousin’s house, we skipped out for a bit to see Joely. And who did we see hanging out at the front of the house enjoying a cold beer? That’s right Phil Collins. Cool. He was the first celebrity I ever saw in person. And this was back in the 80′s when he was hugely popular.
Omg, I had no idea that was a cover!! I *hate* Phil Collins, but I quite the disturbed version!
@ Beth – OMG – how can you *hate* Phil Collins?
Ok, here it is. Disturbed great band. I love this song land of confusion, but genesis is and always will be the best one to play it. The song is great and the video is completely full of interesting points. The split image characters were great. Just phil collins has to sing this song…just the way it has to be….
