Maurya (Broadway and Granville)
I am a very big fan of Indian food. I’m even more of a fan of buffet-style Indian lunch. And at this point in my life, I’m definitely a fan of Maurya. I had been to this great restaurant a few weeks back when my very dear friends B.S. and J. J. decided (on a whim) to get married. The reception was held at Maurya and we had a fantastic time.
I hadn’t seen my friend Andy in a pretty long while and wanted to get together for lunch. We had discussed meeting on the Broadway corridor as we usually hang out downtown (or on my side of town, on Main), so we settled on Maurya. He had never been and all my previous experiences with Indian food (buffet style) had been great, so I suggested that we try it. Quite frankly, I would have stayed and eaten more and more had I had more space in my stomach.
Maurya’s lunch offerings are usually filled with colours and flavorful. I chose butter chicken, tandoori chicken on biryani rice, a bit of dill salmon tikka and a sampler of the vegetarian dishes (which included samosas and mixed makhani). Overall, I think Andy enjoyed Maurya just as much as I did. And I’m sure we both wished we had larger stomachs so we could eat more!
I would strongly endorse Maurya for lunch, for less than $ 12.00 you have a fantastic all-you-can eat lunch. Quite obviously, you must be prepared for the subsequent food coma. Clearly, I had to wake up a bit later as I headed off to meetings after a very relaxing lunch with Andy. There’s something about sharing a good meal with a good friend, definitely.
